Between August 4th and 7th, 2008, four practitioners were in court to request medical treatment for the injuries that they sustained while in police custody. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) court in the Taihe District, Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, denied medical treatment to Ms. Liu Fengmei and Mr. Huang Cheng. The two other practitioners in court were Ms. Zhang Xiulan and Mr. Qu Chengye.
The four practitioners were arrested on February 25th, 2008. They have been detained at the Jinzhou Detention Centre ever since and tortured by guards Gao Bao (male), Wu Nan (male), Liu Jin (male), Wang Liyong, and others.
A vertebra in Ms. Liu Fengmai's lower spine was shattered six years ago after she fell from the third floor at Majiashan Forced Labour Camp as a result of torture. A metal implant was installed to reinforce her spine. When the guards in the Jinzhou Detention Centre beat her, the metal was bent out of shape. Ms. Liu now suffers from intense pain and has difficulty walking.
Mr. Huang Cheng was beaten so badly that his face was disfigured, his right arm was fractured, and his flesh was torn away from his thigh so that his hamstring was exposed. Nearly six months later, Mr. Huang is unable to lift his right arm and pus drains from his injured thigh.
Ms. Zhang Xiulan developed fibroids as a result of her imprisonment. One grew to about four inches in diameter. The doctor said that it is life-threatening. The officers from the Jinzhou City Taihe District Police Department claimed that she had to write the Guarantee Statement1 before she could receive treatment.
Ms. Liu's and Mr. Huang's lawyers asked for immediate medical treatment for their clients as required by law. But their requests were denied by the Jinzhou City Taihe District Court.

1. "Guarantee Statement": A statement to declare that one is remorseful for practising Falun Gong and guarantees not to practise Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Gong practitioners.
