Mr. Li Yuzhen and Mr. Yang Zongquan are both from Qingdao, Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province. They were arrested in March 2011 for telling people the facts about Falun Gong. Their homes were also ransacked and the police stole cash, computers, and other personal items. They were interrogated, beaten, and their hands and ankles cuffed. They are still in the Jiaozhou City Detention Centre because Jinan Prison refuses to accept them.

Mr. Li Yuzhen is 70 years old. He had to quit his job at Tanhei Factory due to health problems. However, he regained his health after he began to practise Falun Gong. He follows the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and looks inward whenever he encounters difficulties. On March 23rd, 2011, he was arrested by police officers from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the Domestic Security Division of the Beiguan Police Station. He was interrogated and later sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Mr. Yang Zongquan is over 50. On March 29th, 2011, officers from the 610 Office and Wendeng Yingzhen Police Station in Wendeng City went to his home and arrested him. At a secret hearing in Jiaozhou City Court, he was sentenced to four years in prison. Mr. Yang now suffers from severe heart problems after several months of persecution.

In Jiaozhou City Detention Centre, both practitioners were handcuffed, shackled, and forced to do manual labor for more than a month.

Secret Hearing Held in Detention Centre

Officials from Jiaozhou City Court held a secret trial inside the detention without notifying Mr. Li's or Mr. Yang's family or lawyer. The so-called “public hearing” involved four people—a judge, two court clerks, and a prosecutor. The evidence was fabricated. Mr. Li was sentenced to three years imprisonment and Mr. Yang to four years.

Jinan Prison Refuses Three Times to Accept Both Men

The 610 Office tried three times to transfer Mr. Li and Mr. Yang to Jinan Men's Prison. However, they were refused admittance every time because they didn't pass their physical exam. Mr. Li lost consciousness during the exam while My. Yang's blood pressure was too high.

Around January 20th, 2012, Mr. Yang's sister went to the detention centre to ask for his release and learned that his blood pressure was higher than the previous two times when he was taken to Jinan Men's Prison for a physical. She and other family members then went to see the director of the detention centre, Jiang Liansheng. However, Jiang refused to talk to them and pushed them out of his office. Later, they found out that Jiang went to the dining room and tried to talk to him again, but to no avail. Jiang saw them and pushed them out the door. However, one of Mr. Yang's elderly family members didn't move fast enough was pushed and fell down while Jiang called the guards to “remove” them.

Mr. Li's and Mr. Yang's families have gone to the 610 Office, the court, and the detention centre many times to request their release. However, Jiang insists on detaining both men. When the families asked how could the practitioners' health could have deteriorated so badly, all responsible officials refused to answer them.

Mr. Li and Mr. Yang have been held in the detention centre for more than two years. Despite being in such an evil environment, they continue to practise Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and tell people the facts.
