Ms. Chen Guilan was put on trial at Shuangta Court in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. Her lawyer, who was hired from a Beijing law firm, gave a strong defence for her in the court.

Ms. Chen was reported to the police when she was seen distributing free DVDs about Falun Gong and the persecution to the public near Zhongxin Market at around 9 a.m. on March 3rd, 2013. She was arrested and then interrogated by officers from the Qianjin Branch Chaoyang City Police Department. Zhang Zhiqiang, director of the police department branch, ordered Ms. Chen to be detained because she was not cooperating with the police. Later, officer Wang Zhiren referred Ms. Chen's case to the Shuangta Procuratorate. Officials from the Qianjin Police Department Branch, Shuangta Procuratorate and Shuangta Court worked together to frame Ms. Chen in order to get her sentenced. Her trial was set for August 9th, 2013.

The public procurator demanded the judge sentence Ms. Chen to between five and seven years of imprisonment. Ms. Chen's lawyer made a strong defence and requested that an importance piece of evidence be played in the court to support his client's innocence - one of the DVDs on the persecution of Falun Gong. However, the judge refused his request, giving all sorts of excuses. When the lawyer insisted that Ms. Chen be released immediately as no crime had been identified, the chief judge announced an adjournment.

Ms. Chen had already been detained for more than five months before the trial. Her ill husband is in need of her care to look after him.
