The “Transforming” Torture Package Used by the Beijing Forced Labour Camp System

I was detained in Beijing Forced Labour Dispatch Division in 2008, and afterwards incarcerated in Beijing Women’s Forced Labour Camp. I suffered through every single step of the “transforming package” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] that the forced labour system uses. As a result I was severely traumatized, both mentally and physically.

The Forced Labour Dispatch Division

Beijing Forced Labour Dispatch Division applies numerous tortures to force Falun Gong practitioners to denounce their faith. Afterward, the division sends the practitioners to various other facilities based on their “transformed status.”

Practitioners are forced to sign their names on the pre-drafted statements to accept the contents that slander Falun Gong. Refusing to sign the statements results in the practitioners being subjected to a series of “transforming” methods.

Practitioners are threatened that once they refuse to denounce Falun Gong, they will be locked up in “small confinement cells in complete darkness,” and “will eat and relieve themselves inside the confinement cell.” They are deprived of sleep if they refuse to recite the labour camp rules.

Practitioners are denied family visits. The criminals are instigated by the authorities to supervise practitioners’ every movement and they will be punished if they fail to stop practitioners from practising the exercises or reciting Falun Gong teachings. To receive rewards, such as term reduction, some criminals brutally strike practitioners to please the labour camp authorities.

Unable to endure the inhuman persecution, some practitioners sign the statements to denounce Falun Gong. However, this is not enough, and the guards then make them write more statements to completely “break away” from the founder of Falun Gong and their faith.

The guards brainwash practitioners into believing that once they write the statements, they must continue committing more crimes against their faith, which makes them the most notorious people. Thus they are completely destroyed and it is very difficult for them to turn around.

The guards also force those who have written the statements to write articles to “expose and criticize” Falun Gong and practitioners. Their goal is to force practitioners to betray their Teacher [Teacher Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong] and Falun Gong, as well as their fellow practitioners.

The transforming package coerces practitioners to betray everybody. However, after betraying fellow practitioners, these practitioners suffer feelings of guilt which are so strong that they believe that they no long deserve to live, and neither do they deserve to be Falun Gong practitioners. Therefore, some of these practitioners eventually begin to collaborate with the authorities to transform other practitioners.

Beijing Women’s Forced Labour Camp

Beijing Women’s Forced Labour Camp follows similar procedures to transform Falun Gong practitioners, but their methods are even more elaborate. Besides threatening practitioners, they use a whole package of tortures, such as “small confinement,” “deprivation of sleep,” “solitary confinement,” “no family visits,” “sitting on small stools for a long period of time,” etc. They also show DVDs that defame Falun Gong in the halls.

In addition, the forced labour camp has the collaborators (former practitioners, brainwashed against Falun Gong, made to assist in brainwashing and torturing practitioners) assist them to write materials that slander Falun Gong.

610 Office Harassment

After I was released, the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) watched and followed me everywhere. During holidays, and particularly when the Chinese Communist Party had its committee assemblies, the 610 Office always came to check on me, or they sent someone from my work unit to monitor me.

The 610 Office harassment and monitoring is a continuation of the persecution.
