A 78-year-old woman from Daxing'anling, Heilongjiang Province passed away last August, after remaining in a coma for about two months following a sudden stroke.

Ms. Li Youqin had enjoyed good health after she began practising Falun Gong, and was able to do household chores with ease, even at her age. Her family suspects that a police encounter last May placed her under great mental pressure and strain, which eventually led to her stroke and death.

While distributing Shen Yun [a New York-based world-class traditional Chinese cultural show] DVDs on the street on May 6th, 2014, Ms. Li and a fellow practitioner were reported to police by two middle-aged women. Soon two officers, one in his twenties and the other in his thirties, came to search their bags, and demanded their names.

Ms. Li insisted that there was nothing wrong with passing out DVDs of Shen Yun Performing Arts, a classical Chinese dance and music show that drew inspiration from Falun Gong, a self-cultivation system being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.

As such, she firmly refused to reveal her name or address. The police threatened that they would come for her later. The sudden encounter and threats placed her under a great deal of strain. Less than two weeks later, she had a sudden stroke and lost consciousness. She was rushed to the ER, but never came out of the coma. She passed away on August 6th.
