Mr. Huang Huixian of Huizhou, Guangdong Province, died two months after he was arrested on June 26, 2017, leaving his wife and their 10-year-old son on their own. His body remains in a funeral facility. He was 40.

Arrest and Death
Officers from the Lianghua Town Police Station of Huidong County arrested Mr. Huang on June 26, 2017, and took him to the Huidong County Detention Centre. His family did not know his whereabouts and was not told by authorities.

Mr. Huang held a hunger strike during his detention and was brutally force-fed. He died on August 26.

His family was devastated by his death and hired a lawyer to seek answers. They want to bring the perpetrators to justice and are seeking compensation. Authorities are holding his body for burial at the funeral parlour.

Past Persecution
Mr. Huang began to practice Falun Gong in 2003, after which many of his illnesses disappeared, his temper improved, and he gave up gambling, smoking, and drinking.

After the Chinese communist regime started its persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, he was targeted by authorities for telling the public about Falun Gong and the persecution. He was sentenced to forced labour in 2004 and was severely tortured in one of the many labour camps where Falun Gong practitioners were sent. The details of his ordeal are documented in “Huang Jingxian and His Wife Are Persecuted in Guangdong Province.”

When he was released in 2006, he was emaciated. His mind was not clear due to long-term force-feeding of drugs and forced injections.

His family was under long-term surveillance and were often harassed and threatened by police and officials from the local residential committee.
