Solemn declarations prove that the Chinese government’s policy of “transformation” is not working

What does “transformation” mean and what are “solemn declarations”?

"Transformation" refers to the use of physical and mental torture to force practitioners to sign statements to say that they will stop practising Falun Gong, or to sign statements slandering Falun Gong. According to some Government and media reports in China, and some media reports outside China, the campaign of "transformation" of practitioners is a successful and effective one - the claim is that more and more practitioners are being "transformed". There is nothing at all to suggest this is true.

Indeed, many of those people who do sign such statements deeply regret doing so after they are released from detention and labour camps. Often at great risk to their personal safety, they write public statements, referred to as "Solemn declarations", to declare to the world that the documents they signed under duress are null and void and that they will continue to practice Falun Dafa. In making such public statements, they must be prepared to once more face the brutal torture and treatment. In one week alone, nearly 700 such statements were received by a Falun Dafa website.
