On September 14, 2001, after being reported to the police, Wang Yuanxian (female) from Wuhan City was arrested while posting truth-clarifying flyers. She was detained in the No. 1 Female Detention Centre, Etouwan, Dongxihu, Wuhan City. During the detention, she practised the Falun Gong exercises as a way of peacefully protesting the illegal detention. Zong (female), the director of the centre, directed criminal offenders to beat Wang. As a result of the beatings, her incisor was knocked out; her head received a bruise that swelled to the size of an egg; her legs and back were covered with cuts and bruises. The continuous persecution caused Wang Yuanxian to become mentally disordered. On September 24, 2001, the detention centre informed her family that they could pick her up. Her family members wanted to ascertain the reason for Wang's mental instability, but the centre evaded responsibility.
