Ms. Yang Hailin was born in 1968 and began to practise Falun Dafa in 1997. She lived in Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province. Prior to her death, Yang Hailin continued with her Falun Dafa practice. In addition, together with other local practitioners, she went out to distribute truth-clarifying materials. (1) They did this to prevent local people from accepting additional lies from Jiang Zemin's regime. The gross abuse at the No. 1 Detention Centre in Mishan, Heilongjiang Province lead to Ms. Yang Hailin's death. Below is the newest information regarding this case:

Police in Mishan City arrested Ms. Yang Hailin on the night of April 25, 2002. That same night she suffered torture and was forced to "confess." She was beaten so hard that she could not stand up, and needed to be carried to a car. The next day, perpetrators Ju Hongjun and Liu Xiaohu from the criminal police team came to the detention centre to interrogate her. They jabbed needles into her head, arms and hands, and hit her.

In June, when perpetrators Meng Qinqi, Du Yongshan, Li Gong and others from the Political and Security Section brought her in for another round of interrogation, they handcuffed her hands behind her back with one hand from above the shoulder and one from the lower back, dripping hot-spicy mustard oil into her nose with a syringe and spreading it into her eyes. They beat and tortured her for an entire day.

In August, five Falun Dafa practitioners were unlawfully sent to a forced labour camp, but the labour camp declined to accept them. Even after two months, the detention centre still would not release them. On October 14, 2002, Yang Hailin and about a dozen practitioners staged a hunger strike and insisted on being released. They were force-fed in retaliation. On November 1, they were sent to the Mishan Hospital for emergency treatment. On November 9, they were returned to the No. 1 Detention Centre.

On April 11, 2003, the detention centre head brought a guard and male prisoner to beat practitioners. Ma Baosheng grabbed Yang Hailin's hair and threw her head into the bed board. A sickening sound was heard and Yang Hailin was rendered unconscious. The next day, April 12, at around 1:20 p.m, Yang Hailin died at the detention centre.

Yang Hailin's body was covered with black and blue marks.

During her detention, the Mishan Court authorities sentenced Yang Hailin to a 12 year prison term. In less than one year, she was tortured to death in the detention centre. Afterwards, it didn't allow any visits from any detainees' family members in order to block the news. Even if one was allowed to see someone through some personal ties, no one was allowed to say anything. The news was tightly concealed.

Note:

(1) Clarifying the Truth: Because of the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong in China, and the fact that the unrelenting hate -campaign carried out by China’s state-controlled media, Falun Gong publish and broadcast nothing but false and slanderous reports about Falun Gong and cover up the brutal persecution taking place in China, practitioners inside and outside of China have been actively engaged in what is referred to as "clarifying the truth" – explaining to the public the facts about Falun Gong and exposing the evil persecution. Truth clarification activities include face to face conversations with people, posting notices and posters, handing out flyers, and hanging banners explaining the truth about Falun Gong. Outside of China, where Falun Gong is freely practised, practitioners further expose the persecution in China through anti-torture re-enactments, art exhibits, Internet websites, books, magazines, newspapers, movies and letter writing. The goal of clarifying the truth is to help people understand what Falun Gong is and, to raise public awareness and support, in order to dispel the lies of the current communist regime in China and to raise public support to to bring about the end of the persecution. (Variations: "clarifying the truth", "truth clarifying", "truth-clarifying", "truth clarification", "truth-clarification", "clarifying the facts", "clarified the truth", and "clarified the facts")
