A Falun Gong practitioner from Ireland called Zhao Ming made the following speech at a forum in Spain about the publication Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. is a book detailing the dark history of the Communist Party that has a specific chapter about the persecution against Falun Gong. It was published by The Epoch Times newspaper. The following is a transcript of of Mr Zhao's speech.

I am a practitioner of Falun Gong. I was detained in labour camps and persecuted for about two years in China when I returned from overseas to China for holiday. I think I am speaking here today representing the body of Chinese people who are suffering from the persecution by the Chinese Communist Party during the present time.

My academic background was in science and engineering. My study and career were both satisfactory and I was not interested in politics. During the first year of my study in Beijing Songhua University, the 1989 students’ protest occurred . The CAP suppressed it with a massacre. Since then Beijing University students have lost all hope of this government and country. We were either trying to go abroad if possible to pursue freedom and happiness elsewhere or thinking of how to make money and minding nothing else. I did not have any hope of a good life in China either.

However, since I started to practise Falun Gong in 1994, I experienced a great spiritual and body improvement. Such changes were happening to my fellow practitioners around me as well. I witnessed the benefits it brought to China’s societal morality and human hearts when Falun Gong was quietly but rapidly spreading in China. From Falun Gong I saw a hope for China, which could be regarded as the very last hope.

At the end of 1999, I returned from my study in Ireland to China for a holiday. At that time, the CAP had already started suppressing Falun Gong. I was very clear about what kind of government it was. However, for this last hope I thought I still would like to make a last effort. I went to the Central Government Appeals Office to speak out for Falun Gong, which led to my arrest. I was detained in a labour camp afterwards and suffered a lot there. Those who have not experienced the persecution from the CAP personally cannot imagine that these evil things are still going on. Five friends that I know have been persecuted to death during the past several years. They were all law-abiding citizens and were persecuted to death only because they practised Falun Gong. I related some of my experiences to the Spanish media this afternoon as well as in 2002 after I was released from the prison. Here I would like to tell a story about a practitioner who was detained at the same time as me.

His name was Han Junking and a peasant from Tangshan district of a Beijing suburb. He was very strong but a local villain in the community. But after starting the practice Falun Gong he was totally changed. He did not bully people any more but liked to help others. When the suppression of Falun Gong started in 1999, he went to the government to appeal for Falun Gong as well and was also detained in the labour camps. We were detained together in the labour camp for a period.

What happened in the labour camp was termed by CAP as “mind reformation”. This word is not just a simple slogan but the most evil thing in human history. It was to change a human being into a puppet without any conscience and then manipulate him/her to harm others. They tried to pressure every single Falun Gong practitioner to give up their belief, which was called “transformation”. At the beginning stage those police just could not get Han Junking transformed no matter what method they used. However, the police developed a kind of method later. A person, under long-lasting torture and threatening, was likely to seek evidence for an alternative wrong solution and to achieve psychiatric balance. So the police fabricated lies and false theories to cheat Falun Gong practitioners saying that a practitioner should also transform according to Falun Gong’s principles. This trick enabled the authorities to transform Han Junking. A person, once giving up the right principles, would revert to extreme and violent behaviour. He started to transform other practitioners using violent methods. He resumed his gangster behaviour that he had embraced before he practised Falun Gong.

He was released at the end of the detention period. After being in contact with other practitioner and reading articles on Falun Gong web sites, he realised that he was cheated and regretted it a lot. He restarted to practise Falun Gong and bought a photocopier to duplicate and distribute materials about the truth of the persecution. He was arrested again for doing this. This time he was not transformed but tortured to death.

Han Junking’s story was an outstanding miniature of the good vs. evil conflict during this persecution. You see, Falun Gong changed a gangster into a good man; the CAP put the good man in prison and changed him back to a gangster. After getting out of prison he was changed into a good person again. Then the CAP put him in prison again. When they were not able to change this good man into a gangster, they killed him.

You saw those shocking pictures of torture perpetrated against Falun Gong practitioners. However, this persecution is not only an issue of some practitioners being tortured in prisons. A hundred million people were practising Falun Gong originally. The police alone are not able to persecute such a large a number of people. Actually every persecution instigated by the CAP was a whole-population campaign that under the threats of the CAP’s violent machine and backed up with lies and hatred by the CAP’s propaganda machine, the whole country’s population are utilised to attack the opposite minority group defined by the CAP. The whole of China is just like a big labour camp. This summer during the International Conference on Mental Health and Law, I spoke and said that the biggest psychiatric disease is China’s whole-population-fear under the CAP’s tyrannical governance.

Today we are holding a forum on Jiuping, the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party”. I would say Jiuping should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, because the society of so big a population, with all the traditional morality wiped away and having been instilled with so much hate by the CAP, once triggered will be the biggest threat to world peace. Western developed countries have been trying to influence China through trade and dialogue and change it into a free and democratic country. However, external elements have turned out to be very difficult to make China change because the whole population are educated from primary school by CAP’s distorted school text books. Now Jiuping, using a rational analytical method, has rediscovered those lost correct understandings on morality, culture and history, which allows people see how the CAP has damaged China and advises people not to cooperate with CAP to harm each other. I learned that Jiuping VCDs are very hot property now in China’s underground CD market because people all want to see it. Jiuping is a fire of hope that is now lighting the whole land of China Where there was darkness light is beginning to infiltrate at last. Like the forum we are holding today, we should just keep on speaking about it and spreading it like this and China will change utterly because of it.
