Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Dan from Yueyang City, Hunan Province, was sentenced to three years of forced labour and is suffering from barbaric torture at Baimalong Forced Labour Camp in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. In May 2007, her sentence term would have been over; however, Baimalong Camp authorities extended her term because she refused to be "transformed1". Her family members went to visit her several times, but were harassed by the labour camp every time. On May 16th, 2007, Liu Dan's mother, Mao Xiangtao; sister-in-law, Xu Sanxi; mother-in-law, Tang Fenglian; and another relative went to Baimalong Labour Camp to visit her. As a result, they were arrested and detained at the Second Detention Centre of Zhuzhou City for five to 10 days.

At around 9 a.m. on May 16th, Liu Dan's family members arrived at the labour camp. The guards there would not let them visit. Her mother and sister-in-law went to talk with the chief. Afterwards, her mother-in-law and the other relatives followed them. Xu Sanxi, her sister-in-law, knocked on the door, and the chief, Huang Yongliang opened it, but said menacingly, "Who are you looking for?" Ms. Xu replied, "We're looking for the chief." Huang Yongliang lied to them and said, "The chief is not in."

Liu Dan's mother recognised him, however, and said called out, "Chief Huang." Chief Huang growled, "What do you want?" Xu Sanxi said, "I have not seen my sister for three years. Today, I came here to see her and they would not let me. I'm here to get your help to solve the problem." Another guard asked, "Do you have your ID?" Ms. Xu's ID had been stolen, and she was waiting for the new one, so she said, "I do not have it with me." The guard said, "If you don't have an ID, you cannot see her." Xu Sanxi said, "You said that my sister's term had been extended for further 'education.' I'd like to see the materials that you use to educate her. Then I would have a better idea of why you are extending her term."

The prison guard snatched Ms. Xu Sanxi's handbag. She was about to reason with him, when another relative indicated to Ms. Xu that she should not to show her irritation and that they should leave. Before they went downstairs, another guard came up the stairs and told them to go to the office located downstairs.

Liu Dan's mother-in-law and one of the relatives were also preparing to leave when they realised that they could not see Liu Dan. The guards, however, would not let them leave. The guards took them to the office, and then they immediately informed Pu Zhi of the Shifeng Police Department in Zhuzhou and the National Security Team.

Afterwards, Shifeng Police Department sent two vehicles--one car and one van. Seven to eight under-cover policemen took Liu Dan's relatives to the Shifeng Police Department. They searched them. One officer pushed Xu Sanxi aggressively. In addition, Liu Dan's mother, mother-in-law, and other relatives were all detained at the Second Detention Centre of Zhuzhou for up to 10 days.

In late May of 2005, when she was on a business trip, Liu Dan distributed leaflets exposing the persecution. She was arrested by officers from Husong Police Station of Zhuzhou City. Her husband was with her then, so he was also arrested. About 15 days later, without any legal documentation, Husong Police Station sent Liu Dan to Baimalong Women's Forced Labour Camp of Zhuzhou. Liu Dan had been married for less than six months. She and her husband were both sentenced to three and two years of forced labour, respectively. Ms. Liu was handcuffed behind her back and hung up for several days and nights with no sleep. She was beaten with electric batons and clubs, poked with needles, force-fed, forced to stand for a long time, and not allowed to go to the toilet. Meanwhile, her husband, Zhou Yongbing, also was severely tortured. Zhou Yongbing was detained in Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp in Changsha City. He was burned with cigarettes, tied up tightly with ropes, and subjected to other kinds of brutal torture. Furthermore, the guards even injected him with a toxic drug which caused Zhou Yongbing to become mentally disoriented, although he has now recovered.
