Ms. Wang Jixiu, a teacher from Liuzhuang Lianxiao Elementary School in Taoxu Township, Mengyin County, Shandong Province, had multiple illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis and vertebra hyperplasia of the neck before she practised Falun Dafa. She lost her physical independence and mobility in 1995 due to a lumbar vertebra condition that confined her to her bed. She had to rely on her mother-in-law's help since her husband worked in another city. The family had to watch her suffer.

In 1996, Ms. Wang started practising Falun Dafa and recovered from her illnesses. She became a new person filled with energy. The change in her brought happiness to the family members, who were relieved of their care-taking duties. Falun Dafa brought happiness to the entire family and gave Ms. Wang a new life.

However, in the past eight years, due to the Chinese Communist regime's brutal persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Wang has suffered both mental and physical torture.

On January 13th, 2001, Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The atmosphere at that time in China was evil. There was no other place for Falun Gong practitioners to voice their concerns. Even though the plain-clothed officers and brutal policemen covered the entire Tiananmen Square, pedestrians could still hear shouts of "Falun Dafa is good!" After each practitioner roared out loud, they were arrested one after another. Ms. Wang was no exception. She was arrested on January 14th on Tiananmen Square by the brutal police and detained in an iron cage. Later, she was escorted by the local policemen of Mengyin County from Beijing to her hometown. She was tortured by 610 Office1 agents from Mengyin County.

When Ms. Wang was first sent to the 610 Office in Mengyin County, the head, Lei Yancheng, ordered guards to handcuff her hands below the knee, forcing her legs bent. She could not stand upright nor sit down. Her head was facing the floor with her back bent. The guards constantly yelled at her and beat her in this position. Fang Simin from the county 610 Office and other persecutors ordered the guards to prevent her from sleeping and going to the toilet. She was forced to stand for over ten hours each day. After a few days, Ms. Wang Jixiu had diarrhoea as a result of the torture. She was not allowed to use the toilet despite her pleas. One of the guards said, "Can't you endure? You should endure a little longer." She urinated and defecated in her trousers. She was still not allowed to use the toilet. Ms. Wang stopped eating. Xing Xianying, the deputy director of the county 610 Office and Fang Simin, the ringleader, were among those who intensified the persecution on the grounds of her not cooperating. Xing Xianying fiercely slapped Ms. Wang in the face several times. Fang Simin and another guard hit her with their fists. They kicked her back and forth as if they were kicking a ball. Her head hit the cement wall, the pain being so severe that she was near death. A few days after that, she could not move her body at all.

On February 3rd, the perpetrators from the 610 Office asked a doctor to examine Ms. Wang. The doctor said that she would not live long. Lei Yancheng, the head of the 610 Office was afraid of being held responsible and notified Ms. Wang's family to take her to the hospital.

Ms. Wang was extremely weak when she was sent home. Under such a condition, the perpetrators still would not let go of any chance to control her. The brainwashing unit at the 610 Office fined her 5,000 yuan2 for so-called "bail." Mo Guangli, former deputy bailiff of Taoxu Township, was among the perpetrators who went to her home demanding a forfeit of 1,500 yuan because she went to Beijing. Ms. Wang's husband wanted to use the salary owed to him by the Taoxu Township to pay them. Mo Guangli refused to accept this option because they did not have that amount of money. Ms. Wang's husband had no choice but to borrow the money from his schoolmates and friends to pay the 1,500 yuan fine. The 610 Office agents continued to fine Ms. Wang after taking the 5,000 yuan payment. They forced her to attend a brainwashing session held by the 610 Office in an attempt to "transform3" her. Otherwise, they threatened to send Ms. Wang to the forced labour camp and dismiss her husband from his job.

Under such pressure, Ms. Wang was forced to report to the brainwashing session held by the county 610 Office. These sessions combine vicious mental persecution with physical torture. After 40 days, Ms. Wang's mind nearly collapsed under such strong mental devastation. The 610 Office head, Lei Yancheng, Fang Simin and other perpetrators still would not give up. Ms. Wang could not endure such mental persecution and decided to leave home and become homeless to avoid further harassment and persecution.

She took refuge in a friend's home for two weeks before returning home. Someone reported her and she was arrested again. The police took her back to the brainwashing centre. Fang Simin and the guards handcuffed her left hand onto the floor and forced her to squat on ashes. They beat and cursed her. They forced her to reveal the name of her friend who provided a hiding place for her. Ms. Wang was handcuffed in the yard the entire night. During the second night, she ran away.

During the next four years, the 610 Office kept deducting her salary. Several school principals in Liuzhuang Lianxiao Elementary School in Taoxu Township, Mengyin County were punished based on the "Lianzuo" policy, an extended punishment measure inherited from feudal society where family members, relatives within nine generations, or friends of a practitioner will be punished for being related to or friendly to the government's political target.
