On the afternoon of August 2nd, 2007, the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong Asia Division held a "Human Rights Torch Relay" press conference in Kuala Lumpur. During the press conference, the CIPFG announced that the human rights torch will be lit in Athens on August 9th. Lawyer N. Surendran, a Malaysia member of the organisation said, "The human rights torch symbolises that people around the world are united in taking action to stop the regime's horrifying atrocities. The torch will be relayed in the five continents [Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, South America]."

Mr. Surendran is a key member of Malaysians Against the Death Penalty and Torture and a legal counsellor to the Malaysia Police Monitoring and Human Rights Council. He said that the Olympic Games must be boycotted if the Chinese Communist regime cannot meet the basic requirements of the international community. "Why would we participate in the Olympic Games in a country with labour camps and held by a government which is involved in harvesting organs from living people?" Mr. Surendran asked.

Mr. Surendran said that the persecution of religious groups, political dissidents and Falun Gong practitioners revealed the fact that the Chinese Communist regime is very fragile. He said that the Chinese Communist regime tries to deprive people's free will and it uses violent and brutal means to suffocate dissidents in order to maintain its control.

Mr. Surendran said, "Falun Gong practitioners are detained in labour camps and their family members have no way to tell the world about that suffering. They can only pray, hoping a miracle will happen some day. I think this miracle will come from the outside, from people like us. We all should uphold justice for those detained, and this human rights torch project is important. The torch symbolises the lives of those people who are now being persecuted in China. Let us relay this torch to the whole world to end the persecution of Falun Gong."

The press conference was held simultaneously in all participating Asian countries. The CIPFG emphasised that the Chinese Communist regime has severely reneged on its promise to the world when it applied to host the 2008 Olympic Games, and the human rights situation in China is actually deteriorating. The organisation appealed to the world to take action to stop the atrocities of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners and to prevent the 2008 Olympics from becoming a mask for genocide.
