Ms. Hu Fangju, 62 years old, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province. When she was preparing to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution, she was arrested by the police from the National Security Team in Xiushui County and imprisoned in Xiushui Jail. Another practitioner, Ms. Sun Huamei, was also imprisoned. On December 5th, Ms. Hu was taken to Jiangxi Women's Prison. Since she firmly refused to cooperate with this detention, the police from the Xiushui Jail handcuffed both her hands and feet and dragged her into the police van to drive her away.

A practitioner returning from Jiangxi Women's Prison said: "The persecution in Jiangxi Prison is brutal. If you refuse to be "transformed1," the guards force you to stand facing the wall from 6:30 a.m. to midnight. Then they transfer you to the activity room from midnight to 2:00 a.m. If you are still not "transformed," you have to stand all day until midnight and then sit from midnight to 3:00 a.m. If you still are not "transformed," you will have to stand all day until midnight and then sit from midnight until 4:00 a.m. If you are still not "transformed," they will not let you sleep. They do not allow practitioners to use water during the winter and only allow practitioners to shower once a week in the summer."

A typical example of persecution is the case of Ms. Zhang Shuhua, a 40-year-old practitioner imprisoned in the first team in Jiangxi Women's Prison. She was forced to stand facing the wall during the day and was not allowed to sleep at night. This lasted for one year. She became as thin as a rail and could no longer walk. Despite this, the guards still treated her and other practitioners inhumanely. They did this in secret, using methods that would not leave marks on the body.

Note

1. "Reform or Transform" Implementation of brainwashing and torture in order to force a practitioner to renounce Falun Gong. (Variations: "reform", "transform", "reformed", "reforming", "transformed", "transforming", and "transformation")
