Torture Inflicted on Ms. Gao Guofeng at Qianjin Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province

Ms. Gao Guofeng, 53, a resident of Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested on September 27th, 2007, and held at the Second Ward of Qianjin Forced Labour Camp.

On September 29th, 2007, during the "October 1st" National Day, Ms. Gao seized a microphone and cried out, "Falun Gong is good." Everyone was shocked. Ms. Gao was locked in a small cell, which is a metal cage, where she suffered inhuman torture. This information was disclosed to the public through the Internet. While held in the small cell1, Ms. Gao was given only a small bowl of rice soup every meal. Ms. Gao also witnessed female guard Zhao Yingfan put an unknown drug in the soup.

On March 3rd, 2008, inmates of the labour camp were required to watch a live broadcast of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) two congresses. Ms. Gao's feet hurt because of the torture she received while she was locked in the small cell, so she put her feet over a small bench. Female guard Xie Chunyan noticed this and ordered Ms. Gao to move. Because Ms. Gao did not cooperate, Xie Chunyan reported it to the director of the ward, Huo Shuping (male). Xie Chunyan treats practitioners very viciously. She pulled Ms. Gao's breasts and poked other practitioners in the eyes. She has tortured and beaten practitioners and had their terms extended. Ms. Gao was taken away and brutally beaten. She was forced to wear handcuffs and was deprived of sleep. Since March 11th, 2008, Huo Shuping has withheld full meals from Ms. Gao, and she is starving.

On March 3rd, the director of the monitoring team, Huo Shuping, and guard Xie Chunyan deprived Ms. Gao of sleep. She was shackled in handcuffs starting at 10:00 a.m. in the morning and she was forced to wear them through the night.

On March 4th, when female guard Wang Xiaowei was in charge of "educating," Ms. Gao refused to give up her belief. Wang Xiaowei handcuffed Ms. Gao to the end of the bed and others were required to watch her to make sure she did not sleep. Ms. Gao was uncooperative and slept on the floor. When Ms. Gao was discovered by Sun Xiaojun, the male night shift patrol, she sat up and explained the facts about Falun Gong to him while he remained silent. Later, Ms. Gao was repeatedly kicked by Wang Xiaowei.

On March 5th, Director Huo Shuping bound Ms. Gao in handcuffs and deprived her of sleep for 24 hours.

On March 6th, Ms. Gao spoke out for justice for Falun Gong to the director of the ward, Zhang Aihui, female and female guard Li Peihuan. She disclosed the brutal mistreatment she had been subjected to. The department claimed that excessive force was forbidden. That night, Zhang Aihui took Ms. Gao to a hallway, where she was bound in handcuffs until 12:00 a.m. She was allowed to sleep on a sofa but was not allowed to use a blanket. In the morning she got up. Criminal inmate Li Yingjie, female, reported this to the guard and Ms. Gao was hit in the face by Li Peihuan and then locked in the toilet.

During the day on March 7th, Ms. Gao was monitored by criminal inmates. That night she went to bed and was in so much pain that she moaned continuously.

During the day on March 8th, she was brutally beaten by Warden Wang Xiaowei and guard, Zhou Yingfan. Her face was beaten until it was black and blue and her mouth was injured. She was not allowed to rest until that night.

During the day on March 9th, Ms. Gao was monitored by criminal inmate Liang Xiao (female). When she went upstairs that night to rest, female guard Zhang Aihui forced Ms. Gao to sit on a little bench in the hallway because she did not say "Report" when she entered the guards' office. Ms. Gao informed her about the true nature of Falun Gong but Zhang Aihui did not listen. Instead, she ordered Liang Xiao to tape Ms. Gao's mouth shut.

On March 10th, criminal inmate Li Yingjie, female, who watched Ms. Gao during the day, demanded money from Ms. Gao. Ms. Gao did not give her any. Li reported to Huo that Ms. Gao was doing the exercises. Huo said that Ms. Gao would not be allowed to eat. That night, Ms. Gao was locked to the end of a bed and was not allowed to sleep.

On March 11th, during breakfast, Huo order that Ms. Gao was not to be fed. Ms. Gao was given only a small bowl of corn soup and half a steamed bun for lunch and supper. She was not allowed to sleep until midnight. On March 12th, she was given a meal consisting of half a steamed bun and was deprived of sleep until midnight. On March 13th, when Ms. Gao got up, she refused to wear the ward issued clothes. Wang Xiaowei and Zhou Yingfan ordered Li Yingjie to lock Ms. Gao to the underside of the upper bunk bed with handcuffs, which meant she had to remain standing. Wang Xiaowei prohibited Ms. Gao form having preserved vegetables with her breakfast.

On March 13th, Ms. Gao was taken to a storeroom downstairs. During the day, she was hung up by her handcuffs. When the guards got off work at around 1:30 a.m., they went to the storeroom. They heard Ms. Gao cry out "Falun Gong is good" from behind the door. Guard Sha Yujin and criminal inmate Liang Xiao kicked Ms. Gao in the abdomen. She was not allowed to go to bed until the wee hours of the morning.

Note

1. The detainee is locked up in a very small cell. The guards handcuff practitioners behind their backs in a fixed position, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and there is no light. Detainees have to used a bucket in the cell as a toilet. Meal portions are halved during the daytime. The cells are often infested with rats and the stench is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.
