My Understanding of Morning Exercises

I am a graduate student, and I do the exercises in my dormitory room every day. Last winter, water was supplied round-the-clock in the bathroom. I got up at 3:00 a.m., rushed to the bathroom and washed my face with cold water, and I didn't feel drowsy afterward. I then did the exercises and felt that my practice status was pretty good.

Since it is Spring, water is no longer supplied around the clock. Therefore, I can't wash my face with cold water at 3:00 a.m. The water I stored in a bucket the previous day is not cold the next day, and I noticed that I still felt drowsy after I washed my face with that water. When I did the exercises, my mind was not very clear. I also became lazy, and both the quality and quantity of my practice declined. I was in this state for about a month. I felt that something was wrong with me, and I needed a breakthrough. Last night, after I sent righteous thoughts, I thought about other practitioners who did the exercises diligently, while I just drifted along. I knew that I could no longer behave like this, and I must do the exercises well.

This morning, after I got up, I jumped out of bed and started doing the exercises. When I felt drowsy, I started reciting Hong Yin II. After a while, I felt wonderful. When I did the meditation, I suddenly thought of Master's words in "Teaching the Fa in the City of Los Angeles:"

"What's important for cultivators is righteous thoughts. When you have strong righteous thoughts, you are able to withstand anything and do anything. That's because you are a cultivator: someone who is on a divine path and who is not controlled by the factors of ordinary people or low-level principles."

I realized that my way of dealing with drowsiness by just washing my face with cold water was simply a human trick. I also scared myself with the human notion that I would feel drowsy if I slept less. I actually felt drowsy because I didn't maintain the righteous thoughts of a practitioner. A Falun Dafa practitioner's righteous thoughts are the divine thoughts of gods in the new cosmos. They are brilliant and powerful. It is very easy to use righteous thoughts to deal with drowsiness. It should be like what a little practitioner described in his article about the great Buddha eliminating evil, where with that Buddha's one glance, all of the evil factors were eliminated and it was suddenly clear. Suddenly, I felt like I was in a different, higher realm. When I thought about drowsiness, I found that it had disappeared completely.

Righteous thoughts are magical and important. I write about my experience with the hope of sharing it with other practitioners who have similar situations. The above is my personal experience. Fellow practitioners, please point out anything inappropriate.
