The Torture I Suffered in Wanjia Forced Labour Camp

In November 2005, I was taken to Wanjia Forced Labour Camp for the second time by the police in Harbin City. I had already experienced different forms of torture there before.

On April 22nd, 2007, Wu Hongxun, the team leader of the Training Team, gathered together over twenty male cadres and guards from five sections of the Wanjia Labour Camp and took me to a room because I refused to recite the "thirteen clauses" that defame Falun Gong and to stop practising the Falun Gong exercises. As soon as I entered the room, Wu Hongxun struck me in the face so hard that I fell to the ground. They took my clothes off and restrained me in an iron chair1. An hour later, practitioner Guan Hua was restrained in another iron chair. Guan Hua was also sent here after being beaten by the guards for not reciting the regulations of the prison and the "thirteen clauses."

Before that, practitioner Yan Tingzhen was forced to sit on the iron chair for 40 days and Zhang Shuqin for 34 days as a punishment for not reciting the "thirteen clauses," while Li Wenjun and Sun Shuyun were each forced to sit on the iron chair for more than ten days.

The next day, practitioners Yan Tingzhen, Zhang Shuqin, Sun Shuyun, Mao Shuying, Sun Shuxia, and Li Wenjun were hung up and tortured with electric batons. Mao Shuying was over sixty years old and fainted while being hung up. Sun Shuxia, also over sixty, showed dangerous symptoms with her heart, so the police had to let her down.

I was hung up and shocked by team leader Wang of the 5th team and "small Liu Tao" ("big Liu Tao" is the section leader for the administration department). They shocked me with two electric batons. After that they put me on the iron chair again. I was barefoot and was wearing only thin clothes, but guard Yao Fuchang opened the window in order to expose me to freezing temperatures. On the fourth day, before I had recovered from the torture with electric batons, guard Sun Qing pushed my head down and slipped an electric baton inside my clothes from the side of my neck, then shocked me all over. After that he carried me back onto the iron chair. I was then tortured for five days in total, including being hung up six times and shocked with electric batons six times. In the end, both of my legs and feet were covered with blisters. My feet were too swollen to wear shoes and were unbearably painful. I was not allowed to wash myself during that period. Every night I was locked up in a small cell with three collaborators2 watching and persecuting me. Once, because I refused to sit on a small stool, collaborator Chen Lili and Suo Lanying whipped me and kicked me.

Wanjia Forced Labour Camp was not successful in their plot of forcing practitioners to recite the "thirteen clauses" using torture. In retaliation, they detained those practitioners who refused to recite the clauses for an extra one or two months. I stayed an extra two months and seven days. My term should have been up on May 6th, but I was not released until July 13th.

Note

1. Iron Chair: The "Iron chair" is made of iron pipes. Victims are restrained on the iron chairs with both arms and legs tied for a long period of time, see illustration at http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2002/1/9/17577.html

2. "Collaborators": former practitioners who have turned against Falun Gong under brainwashing and torture. They are then made to assist in brainwashing and torturing practitioners.
