Officers from Dunhua City's Xianru Town Police Station arrested Falun Gong practitioner Wang Yongqiang at 1:00 p.m. on August 1st, 2008. Wang Yongqiang is in his 40s. They ransacked his home, taking away valuables and a large amount of cash. A young police officer also robbed Wang Yongqiang of about 50 yuan1 from his pocket.

They took Wang Yongqiang to the Xianru Police Station the evening of August 1st and began torturing him. The torture lasted three days, from late night on August 1st until August 4th, 2008. They did not give him food or drink, enclosed his head in a plastic bag, put burning mosquito repellent under his nose for a long time, and smeared pepper into his mouth, nose and genitals. They also tied him up and hung him up for one hour on August 2nd and August 3rd. After they put him down, Wang Yongqiang was in excruciating pain and could barely move. The police would sadistically kick his sides periodically. When he lapsed into unconsciousness and his pulse was undetectable, they shoved a few heart stimulants into his mouth and poured cold water over his head.

One police chief got drunk each night and whipped Wang Yongqiang with a thick rope, screaming, "I'll give you a heart attack." He also pummelled Wang Yongqiang's chest.

They forced Wang Yongqiang to bend over while touching his knees. Two officers put their legs on his head and back, and forced him to bear this extra weight while bent over for a very long time. When he collapsed, they kicked him and escalated the torture at night. They repeatedly struck his head with water-filled bottles. One tall officer smacked his left eye with a water bottle, causing severe damage. Now he constantly sees a black spot from that eye. The officers also rubbed an unknown paste into his eyes, which made him pass out from unbearable pain.

The authorities also used other brutal methods that inflicted severe physical and psychological trauma. Due to multiple heavy blows to his head with blunt objects, Wang Yongqiang's eyesight has deteriorated. He also suffers from chest pain and arthritis-like pain in both hands, and has a recurrent dislocation of a thumb joint.

The police sent Wang Yongqiang to the Dunhua Detention Centre on August 4th, 2008 and sentenced him to two years in a labour camp, citing "sabotage of the social order." They took him to the Jiutai Labour Camp on November 20th, 2008.
