Police from Cangzhou City and Huanghua City Arrest Falun Gong Practitioners

On the evening of September 7th, 2009, the Cangzhou City and Huanghua City Police Departments in Hebei Province arrested eight Falun Gong practitioners.

1. At approximately 7:00 p.m. on September 7th, police chief Sun and political instructor Zhao Yixin, from the Huadong Police Station, Huanghua City Police Department, led a dozen police officers to break into the home of Ms. Pu Shuhui, 62. They ransacked the home, and confiscated all of Ms. Pu's Falun Gong books and materials, as well as a personal computer. The police also threatened Ms. Pu's children. Eventually Ms. Pu was released on bail awaiting trial.

2. At approximately 7:00 p.m. on September 7th, a group of police officers broke into the home of Ms. Shi Chuanfeng, 39, arrested her without explanation, and confiscated all Falun Gong books and materials. Ms. Shi's husband was sentenced to ten years in prison for practising Falun Gong and is currently being detained in Shijiazhuang Prison. Ms. Shi's son, who is in high school, and daughter, who is in elementary school, were left home unattended and without any means of financial support.

3. At approximately 7:00 p.m. on September 7th, Ms. Tian Xiufeng, in her forties, was having supper at home when a dozen police officers broke into her home and arrested her. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and other personal property worth over 10,000 yuan1. Ms. Tian's husband died many years ago, leaving her with their three children and little financial means. Ms. Tian is currently detained at the Yanshan County Detention Centre.

4. On the afternoon of September 7th, captain Zhang Jiakai of the National Security Team in the Cangzhou City Police Department led a dozen police officers to Ms. Zhang Lian's workplace and arrested her. Ms. Zhang, who is in her forties, had her home ransacked by police. She is currently detained in the Cangzhou City Detention Centre.

5. After 7 o'clock on the evening of September 7th, Ms. Wang Hui, 35, of Huanghua City was arrested by the local police. Her home was ransacked.

6. At approximately 10:00 p.m. on the evening of September 7th, Mr. Li Zhaochen, in his thirties, from Huanghua City, was arrested by the local police from Cangzhou City. At approximately 7:00 p.m. that night, a dozen officers from the National Security Team of the Huanghua City Police Department, led by Kang Xuebo, broke into Mr. Li's home, ransacked the home, and took funds from his personal bank account totalling 15,000 yuan. Mr. Li, who has a wife, a 6-year-old son, and a daughter, is currently detained at the Huanghua City Detention Centre.

7. At approximately 10:00 p.m. on the evening of September 7th, Mr. Wang Shenghua, 37, from Huanghua City was arrested by local police from Cangzhou City. His home in Huanghua City was broken into and ransacked. As he is divorced, his 14-year-old daughter was left at home unattended.

8. At approximately 7:00 p.m. on the evening of September 7th, Mr. Fan Yong, 26, was having supper at a fellow practitioner's home when officers from the city police department's National Security Team led by Zhang Jiakai arrested him and ransacked his home.
