Mr. Miao Chunhong, who is more than 50 years old, and Ms. Li Qingzhi, who is about the same age, went to Qingshantun in their hometown to distribute leaflets explaining the truth about Falun Gong so that the Chinese people could understand the unreasonable persecution and what Falun Gong is really about on January 31st, 2010. They were reported and arrested by police from the Ningyuan Town Police Station.

At around 4:00 p.m. that day, both their families went to the police station asking for their release. The officers from the station told them that if they persuaded the two practitioners to give up practising Falun Gong, they would release them. But the practitioners did not give in to these tactics. Soon afterwards, the police ransacked their house but found nothing. At about 5:30 p.m., they took Mr. Miao and Ms. Li to the Binxian Detention Centre.

Both practitioners have been living under difficult circumstances, and each have a son. Mr. Miao was living by himself at the time of his arrest. Ms. Li was living with her young son.

They were each sentenced to one year of forced labour on March 2nd, 2010. One of them was to be sent to the Wanjia Forced Labour Camp, and the other to Qianjin Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City.
