Officials from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Ziyang City and Jianyang City of Sichuan Province arrested and harassed about a dozen practitioners starting on June 29th, 2010. These practitioners were subsequently detained at the Erhu Brainwashing Centre in Ziyang City. Their homes were ransacked and their personal belongings confiscated. Officials have continued to follow and arrest other practitioners.

The twelve practitioners arrested include Ms. Xu Suhua (released), Ms. Wu Bangrong (in her 40s), Ms. Li Shiqiong (in her 50s, released), Ms. Zhou Rongzhen (in her 50s, released), Ms. Wang Sufen (released), Mr. Fang Shucai, Ms. Jiang Suying, Ms. Wen Xia, Mr. Chen Yongjian (nearly 60 years old), Ms. Xie Siqiong, and Ms. Wang Liqun. Mr. Chen Yongjian's shop and home were ransacked. Some of his personal belongings, including Falun Gong brochures, were confiscated. Two of his daughters' homes (who are not practitioners) were also raided. Chinese Communist Party officials ordered locksmiths to open the door to Ms. Wu Bangrong's home. They broke in and took her computer and printer.

Ms. Wang Liqun, 61, is a retired employee of the Industrial Crop Research Institute. On the evening of August 12th, 2010, at around 7:00 p.m., a dozen officials from the police station and neighbourhood committee, led by the local 610 Office head, broke into her home under the pretence of checking her residential registration. They turned over things in her house and took many of her personal belongings, including two desktop computers, two printers (an Epson 230 and a Canon 4680) as well as CDs. These items are valued at approximately 7,000 yuan1. Ms. Wang was copying CDs at the time of the raid. She was arrested and detained at the Erhu Brainwashing Centre.

According to inside information, this recent persecution campaign was funded by the county's finance department. The brainwashing centre was set up to persecute, "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] and force practitioners to sign the three statements to renounce practising Falun Gong. Those who gave up Falun Gong were released. Those who resisted were sentenced to prison.

According to sources, the persecution quota given by Jianyang City was 19 practitioners. Besides the 12 practitioners who were arrested, another dozen practitioners were harassed. Some were able to protect themselves, and some were protected by people who knew the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. However they are still being monitored by Party officials.

Some of the administrative staff at the brainwashing centre are heads of various neighbourhood committees and their relatives. Most are deeply influenced by Chinese Communist Party propaganda, and as a result they harbour hatred towards Falun Gong.
