On September 15th, 2010, six domestic security division officers broke through Ms. Bai Qunfang's fence while she was planting seeds and arrested her. The officers took her to the Legal Education Centre (a brainwashing centre) in Xinjin and pressured her to give up her belief in Falun Gong. She was brainwashed, injected with unknown drugs, and tortured to the brink of death before she was sent back home.

On March 1998, Ms. Bai started to practise Falun Gong. After the persecution began in 1999, she was arrested and imprisoned. On many occasions, she left home to avoid further persecution.

Persecuted by Wenjiang County Detention Centre officials

On the morning of January 19th, 2000, Ms. Bai and fellow practitioner Ms. Chen Jinhua went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. Police officers immediately surrounded them. One of them hit Ms. Chen in the head with a baton and the other stomped on Ms. Bai's foot.

The two women were taken to Tiantan Police Station, confined in a large house packed with other people, and starved prior to Chengdu authorities taking them back to their hometown.

Ms. Bai and Ms. Chen were held in the county jail for 15 days and in Wenjiang County Detention Centre for 32 days. Everyday, they did slave labour in the detention centre. They had to pull copper wires out of nine-foot-long electrical cords. Their hands bled from the constant pulling of the copper wire that cut into their flesh. They weren’t fed if they didn’t collect more than six pounds of copper wire a day. The practitioners in the detention centre were not allowed to read Falun Gong books or do the exercises. If they did, they would be beaten, handcuffed, shackled, or forced to kneel down.

Persecuted by officials from Hesheng Town

On March 2000, Ms. Bai was released from the Wenjiang County Detention Centre. Later, authorities from the Hesheng Town government ordered her to go to a brainwashing centre. When she refused to cooperate, the authorities hit her head, back, and soles of her feet with bamboo sticks. Li Yuanhong , a staff member, slapped her until she became dizzy and lost her hearing.

The authorities twisted thick wires into a whip. They had Ms. Bai kneel down and used the whip to hit the bare soles of her feet. It caused her excruciating pain. When the authorities got tired, they put her and her two-year old granddaughter out in the sun and let them stand for hours. The authorities did not spare her granddaughter from standing with her. After Ms. Bai was released, the authorities continued to harass her and search her home. They also “fined” her 15,500 yuan1. Finally, she left home to avoid further persecution. She became destitute and homeless.

Police with Guns Searched for Ms. Bai

Ms. Bai and Mr. Yang Jianzhong, her husband, were on the authorities' black list for practising Falun Gong. Without reason, the police could arrest and imprison them. The couple left their home and became homeless.

On August 6th, 2008, several days before the Beijing Olympics, Mr. Yang went home to get something. It was late in the evening. The police caught him the next day. He was taken to Gongping Police Station. Ms. Bai continued to be homeless.

The Chengdu and Wanjing police wanted to catch Ms. Bai. They mobilised police cars and searched for her in Hesheng Town. All the officers were armed with pistols and searched for her door to door.

On the morning of October 1st, 2009, Ms. Bai Qunfang was caught, taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre, and tortured.

Injected with Unknown Drugs at the Brainwashing Centre

On September 15th, authorities in Hesheng Town, Wenjiang County and Chengdu City arrested Ms. Bai Cheng Songqing from the Hesheng Town Justice Department and Luo Lin from the Hesheng Town 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). They took Ms. Bai to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre.

On the morning of September 18th, Wang Xiuqin from the brainwashing centre forced her to go to the Xinjin County Hospital to see a doctor and get medicine for intravenous injections.

On October 15th approximately 3:30 pm the doctor, Gong (first name unknown) and other staff at the brainwash centre tried to inject the medicine (three bottles of yellow solution) in her. She fought back, but wasn’t successful. She felt dizzy and uncomfortable. Afterwards, she became unconscious. Approximately 8 pm, she was taken to the Xinjin County Hospital to see a doctor. The doctor asked Wang Xiuqin, a staff member what kind of medicine she was injected with. He kept quiet. Ms. Bai’s face broke out with small bumps and she had symptoms of drug poisoning. She was semi-paralyzed and in critical condition. The doctor gave her some medicine and asked that she be hospitalised. Staff member, Xiuqin refused. The doctor discharged her and wrote a prescription that she would be responsible if there were consequences. According to the doctor, she suffered a cerebral haemorrhage.

On October 16th, approximately 3 pm, Luo Lin from the Hesheng 610 Office took her home. The other collaborators, Zhang Jiying and Li Daiqun dumped and left her at home. Approximately 5 pm, she wasn’t able to stand up because of her paralysis. Approximately 7 pm, she crawled around and found someone to help and take her to her son's home. On October 18th, her physical condition became worse. She went to Chengdu City 5th Hospital. She was diagnosed with a cerebral haemorrhage and cerebral vascular sclerosis. On October 24th, she was discharged from the hospital because she could not pay for the medical expenses. On November 1st, she tried to walk, but fell down. She broke her lumbar vertebra. She was hospitalised in the Wenjiang District Hospital for 12 days.

On November 19th, she went to the Office of Appeal to look for Cheng Songqing from the Hesheng Town Justice Department. She asked Cheng to pay for her medical bills. Cheng refused to do it. On November 23rd, three people from the Chengdu City Political and Legal Committee, Wenjiang District Political and Legal Committee and Xinjin Brainwash Centre came and threaten her.
