Ms. Zheng Guixiang and her husband, Mr. Wang Shuyu, from Hengtoushan Town, Huachuan County, Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, are both Falun Gong practitioners. Ever since the persecution of Falun Gong began, they have had their home ransacked many times. They were arrested and had money extorted from them. The facts regarding the persecution of this couple as recounted by Ms. Zheng:

My name is Zheng Guixiang. Before I started to practise Falun Gong, I had several illnesses, including stomachaches, lumbar disc problems, and shoulder pain. I also had a bad temper. For example, I beat my husband and blamed my mother-in-law for many things. In addition, I had many bad hobbies, including gambling and drinking. My husband, Wang Shuyu, also had several diseases, such as heart disease, stomachaches, and tuberculosis. He went to a hospital and was told by a doctor that his diseases could not be cured.

In the winter of 2005, my husband and I started to practise Falun Gong. By practising the exercises and studying the Falun Gong teachings, our diseases all disappeared. I followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a good person. As a result, my temper changed and I did not blame my family anymore. My mother-in-law said, “Falun Gong can really change a person. My daughter-in-law has really changed!”

Seeing this change, the people in the same village also claimed, “Zheng Guixiang has changed. She does not drink or gamble anymore. She treats everyone nicely and her family is happy. If the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) did not persecute Falun Gong, we would also want to practise.”

One evening in April 2009 while hanging banners exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, my husband and I were arrested by the chief of Hengtoushan Town Police Department, Wang Xunjie, and his driver, Shao Hongwei. When Wang Xunjie asked where the banner came from, I refused to tell him. Officer Fang Meng threatened me to try to make me sign a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong. Later, they pushed us into a police car and took us to the detention centre at Huachuan County Police Department.

We were detained there for 15 days. Guard Yang Xiaodong forced us to perform laborious work including picking potatoes and leeks. He also forced us to wash a lot of bedsheets and clothing. Wang Xunjie often came to the detention centre to pressure us to sign a guarantee statement, but we both refused to comply.

Around lunchtime on December 19th, 2010, Wang Xunjie and two other police officers, including Dong Hongsheng and Jia You, ransacked our home. Shao Hongwei was waiting in the police car outside. Jia You went into a small room and took Falun Gong items and an mMP3 player. Dong Hongsheng videotaped everything.

Just then, my sister-in-law arrived. She questioned the police, “My bother and sister-in-law have not done anything wrong! Why are you guys here? Practising Falun Gong is just expressing freedom of religion.” Dong Hongsheng put down the recorder and started to beat my sister-in-law.

The policemen pushed my husband and me into the car and took us to the police station. We were held in different rooms. Dong Hongsheng and Wang Xunjie interrogated me together. They threatened to send me to the Huachuan County Police Department detention centre if I did not cooperate with them. Yu Muchun drew blood from me and videotaped me. Wang Xunjie and Dong Hongsheng told me to sign the interrogation report, but I refused to. The obtained my fingerprints against my will. After that, we were released.

Dong Hongsheng and Wang Xunjie extorted 5,500 yuan1 from my family. They also threatened us, saying, “Never tell other Falun Gong practitioners about this or disclose it on the Internet.”
