Ms. Huang Yonggui, a sixty-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Wanzhou District, Chongqing, passed away as result of years of continuous persecution on the night of January 25th, 2012. Instead of celebrating the Chinese New Year, a time for family reunions, Ms. Huang's husband had to handle his wife's funeral preparations. Her death was a direct result of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) policy of “ruin their reputation, bankrupt them financially and destroy them physically.”

Ms. Huang began to practise Falun Gong in 1997. Her various illnesses quickly disappeared after that. When the Communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong started, she refused to give up her spiritual belief, and as a result she was subjected to persecution many times.

The CCP started to directly persecute Huang Yonggui in December 2001. She was detained in the Wanzhou District Tax Bureau Hotel for brainwashing for one year and nine months. CCP officials, led by Wan Shiquan, tried to force Huang Yonggui to give up her belief, with three local unemployed people led by Qu Jing continuously verbally abusing and beating her. She was forced to stand on a small wooden bench, less than 12 inches long, for ten days and nights, enduring verbal abuse and bamboo whips.

In February 2004, Huang Yonggui was once again detained at the same brainwashing centre, and later at the Jingkou Brainwashing Centre in Chongqing. This time she was detained for one year. During this period, CCP officials under Zhong Huatai tried to shake Ms. Huang 's firm belief in “Truthfulness- Compassion-Tolerance.” Qu Jing forced her to watch videos which slandered Falun Gong.. They also abused her physically. They ordered the local Fuxing Residential Committee to monitor Huang Yonggui in order to put her under more pressure to renounce her belief. Wei Yongqiang, CCP party secretary of the Fuxing Residential Committee, forced Huang Yonggui to remain in a half squatting and half standing position in a rtoilet for three months, with very little food or sleep. Once in a while she could get some food from the leftovers of those watching her. The brutal persecution caused Huang Yonggui's blood pressure to rise significantly. She was free of illness before the persecution, but at that point she suffered high blood pressure which reached 200 mm Hg. The brainwashing centre was finally forced to release Ms. Huang. Although she was back home, they continued to harass and persecute her. She was monitored and followed, causing her to live in daily fear.

In May 2008, police from the Zhonggulou Police Station in Beishan broke into Ms. Huang's home and took away a computer which had been given to her by her son. Huang Yonggui was forced to leave home and lived a homeless life in order to avoid further persecution.

In May 2009, police from the Zhonggulou Police Station deceived Huang Yonggui and asked her to pick up the computer. When she arrived at the police station, she was arrested sent to the Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp for a year and three months. At the Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp, she was tortured with long-term standing, exposed to the baking summer sun, and other severe abuses. She was tortured so severely that she was unrecognizable.

In August 2010, Ms. Huang returned home after the expiration of her term. Because she did not give up Falun Gong, officers from the Zhonggulou Police Station, led by police chief Li Xingguo, broke into her home often to threaten and harass her. As result of the long-term mental torment, she fainted in December 2010 with the symptoms of a stroke. One month late, she recovered, but still could not talk much. Officers from the Zhonggulou Police Station, again led by head Li Xingguo, broke into her home to ransack it. They took away Falun Gong books, and also threatened to take Huang Yonggui to a labor camp.

On January 8th, 2011, Huang Yonggui came home from Zhongbe Shopping Center in Wanzhou District. She was arrested by the Gaosuntang traffic police and officers from the Zhongbaigongting Police Station. After she fell into a coma in detention, her family and friends took her from the hospital and brought her back home to rest. Twenty days later, Huang Yonggui regained consciousness, but she had lost her memory. She could only speak intermittently.

Officers from the Zhonggulou Police Station continued to monitor Ms. Huang's home. When they saw that she could walk outside for short periods of time, they broke into her home on the morning of March 28th. They ransacked the home and then tried to bring Huang Yonggui to the police station for further persecution. Her neighbours accused the police: “Why do you still want to persecute her? She is in critical condition! She can barely speak and has lost her memory. How evil are you? How can a human being do such horrible things to a helpless, sick woman?” Facing the neighbors' indignation, the officers were forced to leave.

The CCP still would not leave a confused, sick woman in peace. On April 1st, 2011, two police officer came to Ms. Huang's home. They had a letter of sentencing which stated that Ms. Huang had to serve a one-year sentence outside prison, under surveillance, and they forced Ms. Huang to sign it.

The local residential committee, led by Head Dong Xiaochun, often came to Ms. Huang's home to harass her. They tried to deceive Huang Yonggui, in order to take her to a brainwashing centre. Ms. Huang refused. At the end of December 2011, they went to her family to take a picture of her, ordering the family to “cooperate.”

Despite her obvious poor health and mental confusion, Ms. Huang Yonggui was often harassed by CCP officials at her home. She fainted on January 21st, 2012, and died on January 25th, shortly after midnight.
