  • Police from the Shenbei New District in Shenyang City Continue to Arrest Many Falun Gong Practitioners

    On the evening of June 7th, 2012, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials and police arrested eight Falun Gong practitioners at their homes. Right now, there are still six practitioners being detained. Mr. Wang Huadi was taken to the Domestic Security Department in Xinchengzi District. While in detention, police officers turned on the air conditioning in the room, poured cold water onto his body, and then shocked him with electric batons. They didn't stop until the batons ran out of power.
  • Mr. Hua Lianyou's Hunger Strike to Protest Detention Has Lasted over 30 Days

    Mr. Hua Lianyou and his wife, Ms. Tian Zongli, both Falun Gong practitioners in Tianjin, were arrested by police and their home was ransacked. When Mr. Hua's attorney went to the Beichen police station to apply to see his client, he was told that Hua Lianyou was in the Ciji Hospital owned by the 1st Detention Centre. When the lawyer saw him that afternoon, he discovered that Mr. Hua had started a hunger strike on May 23rd, over a month before.
  • Mr. Zhou Xiangyang Not Allowed to Visit His Falun Gong Practitioner Wife in Forced Labour Camp

    On July 12th, on visitors' day at Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp, Mr. Zhou Xiangyang and his father-in-law went to visit Mr. Zhou's wife, Ms. Li Shanshan, who is detained there, but the camp officials refused to let them see her. They also threatened to extend her term. Ms. Li's father—but not her husband—finally was allowed to see her. Ms. Li told him that she was forced to do hard labour. Since she refused to renounce Falun Gong, the labour camp officials threatened to extend her term.
  • Seventy-Four-Year-Old Former Head Nurse from Heilongjiang Province Imprisoned for Nine Years and Dies as a Result of Prolonged Abuse and Torture

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Xiuyue, 74, former head nurse at Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital, was imprisoned in the Heilongjiang Women's Prison for 9 years. Nine years of imprisonment, physical abuse and torture caused Ms. Wang to be constantly hunched over, she could not walk, and she lost the ability to take care of herself. Thus she was qualified to be released for medical reasons, but the officers from her neighbourhood police station hindered the process. She was eventually released on medical parole in 2011 but passed away on July 20th, 2012.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Tang Jian from Chongqing in Serious Condition at Yongchuan Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Tang Jian, 37, was transferred from a detention centre to Yongchuan Prison in May of 2012. His family visited him on June 17th, and said he was weak and emaciated. According to the prison authorities, the inmates were treated well with nutritious meals. When his family visited him again on July 9th, they became very concerned. Besides significant weight loss, his legs were swollen, and he could only walk very slowly and with difficulty. He seemed extremely tired.
  • Sentenced to Twelve Years in Prison, Ms. Liu Qingmei, 53, Suffers Brutal Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Qingmei was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2003. In 2008, she was sent to the Shandong Women's Prison, where she suffered brutal persecution and became crippled. She was also persecuted so severely that she developed a mental disorder. Ms. Liu went on hunger strike to resist the persecution. She was force-fed water and buns, and was almost suffocated to death.
  • Fearing Honest Attorneys' Defence and Public Exposure in Court, Qixia Court Officials in Shandong Province Try Practitioners Secretly

    Qixia Court officials covertly tried six Falun Gong practitioners on the morning of July 4th, 2012, without informing the practitioners' families or attorneys. The six practitioners were among more than 20 practitioners from Qixia City who were arrested between August 29th and 30th, 2011. Several of the arrested practitioners were tortured while they were detained. Several practitioners who were released were threatened with prison sentences if they failed to pay extortion money.
  • Ms. Zhang Guijun, Former Teacher at Shenyang Institute of Physical Education, Sentenced to Eight Years; Whereabouts Unknown

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Guijun, about 40, was arrested at her home in Beijing on June 9th, 2011. The police ransacked her home and took many of her belongings away. The belongings included her personal laptop, a portable hard drive, an mp4 player, a USB drive, about 800 DVDs, her mobile phone, a Falun Gong banner, an estimated 700 bills of cash with information about the Falun Gong persecution written on them (it is unclear exactly how much money was taken because her family has not seen her since she was arrested), a printer, a DVD writer, a letter seal, and her work computer. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to eight years by the court. Ms. Zhang's family members still have no clue about where she is being detained.
  • Mr. Liu Yunchao, 56, from Wuhan Dies As a Result of Abuse and Torture in Fanjiatai Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Yunchao from Wuhan died at the age of 56 on July 7th, 2012. Mr. Liu had been mentally and physically abused for many years. Before he died, he lost most of his eyesight, could not speak, and was unconscious. His body had many scars from beatings that he suffered while he was in prison. His legs, hands, and back were dark blue. Mr. Liu had been incarcerated in Fanjiatai Prison for three years, where he was tortured and almost died. It was suspected that he was subjected to forced drug administration.
  • Practitioner Ms. Kang Shufeng from Dezhou City Arrested, Police Extort Money from Her Family

    On April 23rd, 2012, Ms. Kang Shufeng was handing out informational materials about Falun Gong when she was followed and taken to a police station. Ms. Kang was interrogated by police officer Zhang Hongqi in the Decheng Police Station. During the interrogation, another policeman Wang Wenjun threatened that if she did not give them the information they wanted, the police would arrest her son. Ms. Kang was taken to detention. On April 28th, the police station ordered Ms. Kang's family to pay them 500 yuan as a fine and 800 yuan as guarantee money, before she was released.
  • Neighbours Try to Bail Out Falun Gong Practitioner Arrested by Police

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Dong Lianzhu is a resident of Nanliutun, Tangshan City, Hebei Province. On the morning of June 9th, Mr. Dong was arrested by six to seven police officers from the Nanliutun Police Station. The police also took away his personal belongings, including a car, bank cards, a laptop, and a printer. Mr. Dong enjoys a good reputation among the neighbours who tried to stop the police during the arrest. After that, they went to the police station on their own initiative intending to bail out Mr. Dong; however, the police rejected their request and detained Mr. Dong at the No. 2 Detention Centre of Tangshan.
  • Ms. Guan Suming in Critical Condition; Prison Refuses to Release Her

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guan Suming has been severely persecuted in the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison. She has developed high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems and seizures as a result of torture and mistreatment. The hospital has categorized her condition as critical, but prison officials refuse to release her for medical treatment because she is not willing to renounce her faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Guan was arrested in Beijing on September 5th, 2009. She was tortured for more than a year at Beijing's Fengtai Detention Centre and was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
  • Partially Paralyzed and in a Wheelchair, Ms. Wang Jiping Detained in Nanjing Women's Prison for More Than Six Years

    Ms. Wang Jiping is a Falun Gong practitioner from Tongzhou City, Jiangshu Province. She was sent to Jiangsu Province Women's Forced Labour Camp in 2001, to serve a two-and-a-half-year term. She was brutally tortured to the point of disability by guards and convicts. On April 11th, 2003, when her family brought her back home, Ms. Wang Jiping had two broken ribs, her stomach was filled with pus, and a steel rod had been placed in her spine. She couldn't move without using a wheelchair.
  • Ms. Zhang Chunxian Tortured at Forced Labour Camp; Her Lawyer Not Permitted to See Her

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Chunxian was arrested on April 13th, 2012, and later transferred to Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp for one year of detention. When her family visited her on June 5th, Ms. Zhang told them that inmate Zhang Nana was verbally and physically assaulting her. Furthermore, the guards seemed to back up the inmate. Guards and officials at the forced labour camp have been interfering with Ms. Zhang's lawyer by not allowing him to see her.
  • Two Female Falun Gong Practitioners from Tangshan City Arrested, Three Children Left Without Guardian

    On June 9th, an officer from the Public Security Bureau in Tangshan City brought seven public security officers from Luan County with him and together they broke into the apartment of Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Zhang Fengxian and Ms. Shen Shulan. These people did not wear any uniforms and claimed they needed to verify the practitioners' temporary registration. Thereafter, they arrested these practitioners, who had to leave their three children behind.
