  • Ms. Li Fengxia Dies in Custody After Hiring a Lawyer for Her Brother, Tried for Practising Falun Gong

    On April 28th, 2011, police went to see the school principal of Middle School No. 6 at Jiagedaqi City, Heilongjiang Province. They announced the school's teacher, Ms. Li Fengxia, had died from a “stroke” at noon on that day. Ms. Li Fengxia's brother, Mr. Li Fengfei, was arrested and brutally tortured in March 2010 yet the police found no evidence of criminal activity or of Mr. Li's involvement in Falun Gong. Ms. Li hired a lawyer from Beijing to defend her brother and she was arrested in August 2010 and held until her death in custody.
  • Middle School Teacher Ms. Jia Wenguang Persecuted at Tianjin Women’s Prison

    When Ms. Jia Wenguang was telling people about Falun Gong in the Jinjiangqiao neighbourhood on January 14th, 2010, she was arrested by police. This was the third time she had been arrested without just cause. Ms. Jia was sentenced to five years in prison. The police captains continually pressured her and did everything they could to transform [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] her. Ms. Jia wrote to her family, “Living [here] is 10,000 times harder than dying.”
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Yang Shumei and Others Hold Hunger Strikes to Protest Imprisonment

    Prior to the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on March 2nd, 2011, police broke into Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Shumei’s home and arrested her. Her home was also ransacked. On April 11th, practitioners Yang Shumei, Yu Changli, and Ms. Zhang were detained in the Nongan County Detention Centre. The practitioners held hunger strikes for over forty days to protest the persecution. They have subsequently been tied to beds and injected with unknown drugs six times per day.
  • Mr. Guo Fengzhan from Lingyuan, Liaoning Province, Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

    Mr. Guo Fengzhan, in his sixties, was arrested on September 28th, 2010. The Lingyuan Court sentenced him to four years in prison. He has filed an appeal. On February 8th, 2011, Mr. Guo’s daughter-in-law went to the court and talked to judge Qiao Jianmin. Qiao told her that they were still investigating. Mr. Guo’s daughter-in-law said many good things about him. Qiao said, “It is useless no matter how many good things you say about Mr. Guo. It is hard to handle as long as the case involves Falun Gong. For other crimes such as robbery, and murder, we can make some exceptions. However, there is no exception regarding a Falun Gong case. It's a political case.”
  • The Inside Story of the “September 19th” Outrage in Jilin Province (Heizuizi) Women's Labour Camp

    On September 19th, 2007, guards in Heizuizi Women's Labour Camp subjected many Falun Gong practitioners to various forms of abuse. Guard Jin Lihua snatched away a hand-copied Falun Gong book from practitioner Xiaofen, so she stopped performing forced labour. The guards took her to the office and punched, kicked and shocked her with electric batons, leaving bruises all over her arms and legs. Moreover, they added two months to Xiaofen's term. Guards tortured practitioner Ms. Li Yajuan with the “stretching bed” method. They tied her limbs to each corner of the bed and left her body hanging in the air, with her back slightly touching the metal section, which was warped in the middle of the bed. Three days later, she was let down, but could not walk.
  • Mr. He Binggang Framed by Police and Indicted in Shanghai

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. He Binggang was arrested by officials from the Changning District Domestic Security Team's 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) on April 15th, 2010. The police claimed they had received a phone call a phone call from a witness saying that Mr. He's company had a computer that had been obtained illegally. They searched the company and found a box of Falun Gong books and a Falun Gong DVD, which had been planted by another plainclothes policeman and arrested Mr. He. The Changning District Procuratorate has indicted him.
  • Policewoman Kong Feiying from Anlu City, Hubei Province Fired with No Explanation Given

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Kong Yingfei is a former policewoman from Anlu City, Hubei Province. She started practising Falun Gong in 1998. In 2000, shortly after the Chinese Communist Party launched its nationwide persecution of Falun Gong, she was fired by her police bureau without being given an explanation. In 2000, Ms. Kong went to Beijing to appeal to the government regarding Falun Gong, and was arrested by local police and sent back to the Anlu Detention Centre. When she was in the detention centre, she was ordered to sign the “three statements” to renounce her belief, but she refused to do so.
  • Chongqing Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Xu Wenxiu Paralysed from Torture

    During the past ten years, Chongqing Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Wenxiu has been repeatedly persecuted by officials from the Chongqing 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), the prison, detention centre, drug rehabilitation centre, police station, brainwashing centre and other government agencies. She is now paralysed and bedridden due to the persecution, and is unable to take care of herself.
  • Mr. Xie Wutang Dies after Ten Years of Persecution

    Mr. Xie Wutang, 71, was a Falun Gong practitioner who lived in Changsha City, Hunan Province. He was detained and tortured in Wuling Prison. During this time Mr. Xie was unable to practise the Falun Gong exercises, and his health deteriorated considerably. Despite this, prison officials did not release Mr. Xie until he was in critical condition. Once he was released in March 2010, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The cancer spread throughout his body. The doctors said it was too late for surgery. He died on April 12th, 2011.
  • Seriously Ill Due to Persecution, Mr. Wang Hongwei Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison

    Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Wang Hongwei and Ms. Wang Haixia (Wang Lili) were arrested in November 2009, after being homeless for five years. In July 2010, Wang Hongwei was sentenced to 10 years in prison and Wang Haixia to six years. Mr. Wang has been seriously ill as a result of persecution. He was rejected by the prison twice due to his poor health.
  • Ms. Huang Shifen Arrested and Missing in Shifang City, Sichuan Province

    Ms. Huang Shifen, a Falun Gong practitioner from Shifang City, Sichuan Province, was arrested and detained for 15 days. On April 2nd, several members of Ms. Huang's family went to visit her, but the guards did not allow them to see her. On April 12th, she was taken from the detention centre. Ms. Huang's current whereabouts is unknown.
  • Three Practitioners from Longkou City, Shandong Province Sentenced to Forced Labour

    On March 20th, practitioners Ms. Chen Yan, Ms. Qu Jianqin and Ms. Liu Changyuan were arrested by police from Shiliang Township Police Station. They were detained at Zhangjiagou Detention Centre for more than 20 days. They were all sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour. April 13th is the police chief's reception day. Ms. Chen's family went to him and gave him a letter of appeal. When Chief Shao Aimin saw it was about Falun Gong, he threw it on the desk and said angrily, "Put it over there."

    Practitioners held in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp were forced to sit on a stool for more than ten hours every day, forced to memorise 30 rules and standards of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong. They used high-pressure violence and cruel means to try to force practitioners to “transform” and write the three statements, make an oath, slander Falun Gong, and write their name on the “oath wall.” If they didn't comply, they were forced to stand facing the wall for a long period of time and/or tortured with the “stretching bed,” the “big hang-up”, and electric batons along with other cruel methods.
  • Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Officials Cover Up the Truth about Mr. Hou Yanshuang's Death

    Since Mr. Hou Yanshuang's death was reported outside of China, Shenyang First Prison officials have been afraid their outrageous actions would be exposed. Higher levels of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) also panicked. They did not check who was in charge of the case, whether the prison broke the law, or whether Mr. Hou's family was given an explanation. Their only concern was how the news of Mr. Hou's death got out of China. Mr. Hou Yanshuang was detained and persecuted in the Shenyang First Prison. As a result of persecution, he suffered many severe illnesses and passed away on April 3rd, 2011.
  • Mr. Zhang Jiuhai from Beijing Sent to a Forced Labour Camp Three Times

    The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has persecuted Falun Gong practitioners for more than ten years. Over the course of the persecution Mr. Zhang Jiuhai has been detained in forced labour camps three times for a total of about six years. In 2000, Mr. Zhang was reported to police and arrested because he distributed Falun Gong informational materials. He was sentenced to one year of forced labour. In the dispatch centre, he was brutally tortured. Guards forced the practitioners' heads down on a bed and stretched their arms up in an “airplane” shape. As a result of the torture, Mr. Zhang Jiuhai’s whole body trembled and he almost lost consciousness. Guards beat, verbally abused, and pinched Mr. Zhang and slammed his head against a wall.
