Husband Given Prison Sentence; Wife Sent to Brainwashing Centre

Falun Gong practitioner Jiang Zonglin was formerly the superintendent of the Mingyuan Architecture Design Institute, a part of the Chengdu City government. On August 2nd, 2007, he was arrested at home by police. Jiang's family never received any legal documentation and only heard much later that he was subjected to brainwashing. He was not allowed to sleep for sixty straight hours. On December 8th, 2008, which is the petition reception day for the Sichuan Province government, Jiang's wife went to the government office to appeal for her husband. However she was arrested. -
Funing County Court Blocked Road for a Trial, Arousing Public Resentment
2009-01-09On December 23rd, 2008, a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) county court conducted an unjust trial of Guo Daoyou, a Falun Gong practitioner in Funing County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. Because the court officials didn't dare hold an open trial, about thirty police officers from the Public Security Bureau, Procuratorate, and the people's court blocked the street on both sides, and stationed police guards from about 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Passersby weren't allowed to walk by. The roadblock aroused people's resentment. Some local people said that a regular trial would not have been blocked like this. They didn't know why the area was blocked this time. -
Seven Practitioners Receive Four to Eight-Year Prison Terms in Xingtai City, Hebei Province
2009-01-09Mr. Yin Shunfeng, in his 70s, was given a three year sentence. Mr. Yin, now retired, used to be an official in an auto repair factory. He lives at the Xingtai City Business Bureau Residence Building. He was sentenced to three years of forced labour for lawfully appealing for Falun Gong back in January 2000. Ms. Qian Wanyun, in her 40s, was given an eight-year sentence. She was sentenced to one year of forced labour for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution back in January 2001. -
Mr. Zhen Zhanbo and Mr. Chen Xinye Tried by Court in Shenyang City
2009-01-08On December 22nd, 2008, the Huanggu District Court in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province tried Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Zhao Zhanbo and Mr. Chen Xinye. Both of them looked very thin at the trial. Mr. Zhao Zhanbo and Mr. Chen Xinye stated during the trial that the city's police tortured them during interrogation. The court lied to the relatives of other accused defendants by saying that too many Falun Gong practitioners had showed up and taken up all of the space, so they only allowed one member of the accused's family to attend. This deception caused people to be resentful of Falun Gong practitioners. This is an example of how the authorities incite public hatred toward Falun Gong. -
Ms. Li Yanhui from Zhoukou City, Henan Province, Sentenced to Four Years of Detention
2009-01-07Ms. Li Yanhui, who worked in a Chinese medicine hospital in Zhoukou City, Henan Province, was recently sentenced to four years in the city detention centre by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. Her second trial will be held soon. Ms. Li has been on a hunger strike for more than 10 days. The police have been inserting a tube into her stomach to cruelly force-feed her. She is very weak and cannot walk without leaning against the walls. -
Mr. Yan Shoulin Arrested for Defending Practitioners in Court
2009-01-07On December 2nd, 2008, practitioners Mr. Yan Shoulin, Ms. Yang Chunmei, and her younger brother Yang Bin from Dengshahe Town, Jinzhou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province, were violently arrested by police. Mr. Yan Shoulin had defended another practitioner, Ms. Gu Li, in court in August 2008. Ms. Gu was arrested because she had been people the facts about the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong. After the trial, Mr. Yan Shoulin was frequently followed until his arrest. -
Ms. Deng Xiaomei from Zhenxiong County, Yunnan Province, Sentenced
2009-01-03Ms. Deng Xiaomei, a Falun Gong practitioner and a kindergarten teacher was arrested by police at home on November 11th, 2008. She has been sentenced to forced labour for two years. Ms. Deng who is 30 years of age, has been detained twice before. In 2000, she was detained for over three weeks just because she participated in a Falun Gong group exercises. In 2002, she was sentenced to forced labour for two years. -
Ms. Wu Chuanying from Linli County, Hunan Province Sentenced to Eight Years in Jail
2009-01-02Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Wu Chuanying has been arrested and detained six times for practising Falun Gong. From November 2004 to November 2005, Ms. Wu Chuanying was arrested four times. She was brainwashed and sentenced to three years in jail for not giving up her belief. She went on a hunger strike to protest. In April 2006, she was subjected to forced intravenous drug injection in a hospital, though she managed to walk out free. In 2008, the police detained her in the Changsha Women's Prison again. -
Many Practitioners Arrested and Fined Recently by Police in Weifang City, Shandong Province
2009-01-01On October 29th, 2008, police officers barged into the residence of Ms. Li Shuqin. They took her Falun Gong books and other items. They took Ms. Li to the Yuhe Police Station and incarcerated her. They tried to extort at least twenty thousand yuan from her family. The family did not cooperate, so the police did a blood test on Li Shuqin against her will in the afternoon. They took her to Yuhe Hospital to check her blood pressure and her heart rate. When they were checking her, she had a heart attack. When she was lying on the bed, her whole body was shaking and bouncing around on the bed. Despite her being in this condition, the police still took her to the Weifang City Detention Centre. -
Ms. Wang Zhongqiong and Ms. Chen Ru from Deyang City, Sichuan Province Sentenced to Prison
2009-01-01On December 8th, 2008, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) court sentenced Falun Gong practitioners 69-year-old Ms. Wang Zhongqiong and 47-year-old Ms. Chen Ru to four years and three years in prison respectively. During the trial, the judge did not allow either their relatives to defend them or the assignment of a defender. The trial was conducted in a hurried and careless manner. Many policemen from the National Security Groups of Deyang City and Shifang City showed up in the courtroom. After the trial, an unidentified person was video-recording all the people walking out of the court. -
Shijiazhuang City Intermediate Court Abuses the Law in the Cases Against Falun Gong Practitioners
2008-12-31Shijiazhuang City Intermediate Court in Hebei Province thwarts the regular legal process by dictating verdicts to the Lower Court and depriving defendants of the right to appeal. Employees of the court are accused of holding detainees beyond their terms, preventing defence lawyers from meeting with defendants, restricting defence lawyers from doing their jobs, arresting Falun Gong practitioners who attend court hearings of other practitioners, and denying defendants' right to medical parole. They are accused of having framed practitioners for crimes and of having been actively involved in the persecution of Falun Gong. -
Falun Gong Practitioners Detained in the Shenyang City Detention Centre

On May 24th, 2008, Zhao Zhanbo was in his mother-in-law's neighbourhood. About a dozen officers beat him until he fell to the ground. They then handcuffed him, and pushed him into a police vehicle. Many local residents witnessed this outrage. Three policemen took his keys and later searched and ransacked his home. Police beat him for three days and nights in a detention centre. Mr. Zhao was not allowed to sleep. Mr. Zhao is emaciated. -
Ms. Yin Qiuyang and Ms. Yin Lanying from Hunan Province Sentenced to Three Years' Imprisonment
2008-12-28Ms. Yin Qiuyang and Ms. Yin Lanying from Huaihua City, Hunan Province were sentenced by the Hecheng District to three years' imprisonment. It is the third time that Ms. Yin Qiuyang has been arrested and persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party. Ms. Yin Lanying has been detained at least five times. -
Beijing Lawyers Ask Heilongjiang Provincial Intermediate Court to Acquit Practitioners
2008-12-27Recently, two lawyers were invited to see the judge of the Heilongjiang Province Nongken Intermediate Court. They requested an open court session for the second trial of five Falun Gong practitioners. On November 13th, 2008, the two lawyers had a meeting with two officials from the intermediate court, who pressured them not to represent Falun Gong practitioners. The lawyers refused. Afterwards, the court officials suggested that the Falun Gong practitioners be sentenced to forced labour camp terms without an open court trial. Under the Chinese Communist Party's rule, judges don't have the right to impartially judge a case. -
Ms. Yang Shuyu Arrested in Dalian City
2008-12-27On November 20th, 2008, Ms. Yang Shuyu was reported to the police while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong and that Falun Gong teaches people to follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance near the Yaojia Detention Centre. She was arrested and brutally beaten by officers from the Nanguanling Station and is being detained at the Yaojia Detention Centre.
