Elderly Ms. Liu Bilian from Hunan Province Has Been Arrested Eight Times

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Bilian, a native of Yueyang City, Hunan Province, is 68 years old. She started to practise Falun Gong in 1998. However, during the ten years that she has been a practitioner, she has been arrested eight times and has suffered brutal torture. On March 5th, 2008, 7 policemen came to Ms. Liu's residence took Falun Gong books and personal belongings and locked her up at the police station. Ms. Liu was interrogated for four days and nights, and was then detained at the Yunxi Detention Centre for 87 days. She staged a hunger strike to protest. The guards took her to hospital but continued to torture Ms. Liu. -
Police Arrest and Terrorize Seven Older Women, Extort Large Sums of Money
2008-10-05On May 12th, 2008, police surrounded the home of Huangjia Village practitioner Ms. Li Yongxin. Using the excuse of "ensuring security for the Olympics," the police dispersed the villagers who gathered after hearing the news, broke into the home, ransacked it, and arrested Ms. Li Yongxin and six other older women practitioners. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents told the family members of each practitioner that they might be freed after two weeks and then proceeded to extort money from them. On May 19th, Ms. Li Yongxin and Ms. Zhao Cuizhi were taken to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City. -
Disabled Man Sentenced to Three Years in Prison Has Been On Hunger Strike for Two Months
2008-10-03On September 12th, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Li Ruifeng, who is deaf and lives in Jining City, Shandong Province, was arrested by policemen while at home. They ransacked his bedroom and took away personal belongings and a computer. On the same day, another twenty Falun Gong practitioners from Shizhong District, Jining City were arrested. On the morning of July 14th, 2008, Li Ruifeng was secretly tried by the Shizhong District Court with no prior notice, and without informing his family. On July 24th, he was sentenced to three years in prison. From July 20th, Li Ruifeng has been on a hunger strike, in order to protest the long-term detention. -
Mr. Ma Kaihua in Renqiu City, Hebei Province, Inhumanly Persecuted During the Olympics
2008-10-02On August 7th, 2008, a plain-clothes police officer went to practitioner Ma Kaihua's home claiming that he wanted Mr. Ma to decorate his house. When he confirmed that it was Mr. Ma's home, police arrived and searched the premises without presenting any legal papers. Of August 8th, about 50 police surrounded Ma Kaihua's house. They climbed up to the top of the house and surrounded Mr. Ma, who was sleeping on the roof. A gang of policemen attacked him. They violently beat him with sticks and rubber batons and shocked him with high voltage electric batons. They continued to beat him until he fell off the roof, which was seven metres high. The ground was cement and Mr. Ma was unconscious after the fall. They arrested him and took him to hospital. Mr. Ma was in a critical condition. -
Ms. Ding Guiying from Honggang District, Daqing City Sentenced to Forced Labour
2008-09-30Ms. Ding Guiying, in her fifties, makes a living as a hairdresser and also rents out some apartments. Since she began practising Falun Gong in 1996, she followed the principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance and was known to be a noble person. She provided warm and thorough service to her customers. For those who rented her apartments, she provided them with quilts without any charge. Her husband passed away a long time ago. She raised her two daughters on a meagre income. From the perspective of her neighbours, Ms. Ding is kind hearted and has a strong will. Yet, with no regard for her upstanding character, the authorities sentenced her to forced labour recently. -
Police Arrest Ms. Chen Fang, a Practitioner from Xianning City, Hubei Province
2008-09-27On July 14th, Ms. Chen Fang, a practitioner, was forced into a car as she was walking with her daughter. Her neighbour wrote down the licence plate number. Informants said that it was a car from the Wenquan Police Bureau, in Xianning City. Soon after Ms. Chen was arrested, several policemen went to Ms. Chen Fang's home with an arrest document and forced her mother-in-law to sign it. Enraged at this, her mother-in law refused to sign the arrest document and chastised the police for behaving like gangsters. Ms. Chen Fang was taken to a brainwashing centre. Her husband, Mr. Yu Jinguang, has been sentenced to three years of forced labour. -
Large Scale Arrests and Abuses of Falun Gong Practitioners in Qidong County, Hunan Province before the Beijing Olympics
2008-09-25Before the Beijing Olympics, in Hunan Province, the 610 Office and local police stations in every township in Qidong County ordered police to arrest Falun Gong practitioners on a large scale and detain them. They ransacked practitioners' homes, and confiscated Falun Gong books and informational materials and valuable personal property. The police also beat practitioners. On August 4th, several police officers climbed up from the first floor through the security grill and broke into practitioner Shi Zhenhua's window. Seven officers dragged Ms. Shi into the police car and took her to the police station. Zhou Aimin kicked and beat Ms. Shi. Her legs were severely injured and her chest and back were badly bruised. Then the police took Ms. Shi to the county detention centre. -
Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Li Jingyan from Weifang City, Shandong Province
2008-09-25Ms. Li Jingyan appealed for Falun Gong to the government officials in the winter of 2000, telling them of the benefits of the practice. They were arrested and detained in a local retirement home. Li Jingyan tried to talk to the guards, "We practise Falun Gong and try to be good people. Why do you beat and detain us?" They immediately beat her with police batons. She lost consciousness and was sent to the town hospital for emergency care. On February 26th, 2006, Ms. Li was arrested at home. Police subjected her to a beating, breaking her nose in the process. On July 9th, 2008 Li Jingyan was arrested again and sent to Wangcun Forced Labour Camp. -
A Teacher from Jilin City Arrested and Tortured
2008-09-22Ms. Li Liwen is a 50-year-old primary schoolteacher from Jilin Province. She helped the most undisciplined kids in the school to become straight "A" students with the principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance that she learned from Falun Gong. Yet this good teacher was arrested by police officers just before the opening of the Olympic Games. After being tortured for 42 days, she could barely walk and can no longer take care of herself. -
Zhang Lianhe from Kaifeng City Arrested--Happy Family Torn Apart
2008-09-22On July 21st, 2008, at about 8:00 p.m., practitioner Zhang Lianhe was on his way back to his home town Kaifeng from Zhengzhou City after getting off duty. He called his family and told them that he was on a city bus and would be home soon. But at about 9:00 p.m., his family got a text message from him, which stated, "The company asked me to go back to Zhengzhou, my mobile phone battery is going to run out, and I will contact you later." However, Zhang Lianhe had actually been arrested. Zhang Lianhe has been in custody for more than a month without his family hearing any information about him. -
Older Practitioner Ms. Liu Hailan of Fujin City, Heilongjiang Province, Arrested at Gunpoint
2008-09-21While Ms. Liu Hailan and five other practitioners were distributing information exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in a town on the evening of August 21st, 2008, they were chased by a police patrol car. Three of the six practitioners managed to escape. When the police intercepted the remaining practitioners, three officers jumped out of the patrol car and drew their guns. The practitioners were immediately arrested, put in the patrol car, and driven to the Erlongshan Town Police Station. Ms. Liu, who is almost 60 years old, is being held in the Fujin City Detention Centre. -
Mr. Cui Dejun's Whereabouts Unknown and His Relatives Arrested
2008-09-21On May 12th, 2008, Mr. Cui Dejun, who was held in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, started a hunger strike to protest the persecution. After 23 days, he became unconscious and then became incontinent for two days. The labour camp did nothing to treat him. It is said that Mr. Cui successfully escaped from Masanjia Labour Camp on August 11th, 2008. However, Mr. Cui's whereabouts and physical condition are currently unknown. On August 14th, 2008, his sister-in-law was arrested at gunpoint by the police. On August 15th, Mr. Cui's fourth brother and his wife were also arrested at gunpoint by the police at the store they own. -
Wei Haiming and His Wife Zhao Zonghua Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison in Secret Trial
2008-09-20In July 2008, officials at the Datong County Court in Xining City, Qinghai Province sentenced Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Wei Haiming and his wife Ms. Zhao Zonghua to five years in prison without a public trial. They are now incarcerated at the Menyuan Prison in Qinghai Province. Datong Court officials were afraid of letting the public know of the trial. The court did not inform their families, nor the defence lawyers the families had hired before the trial. The lawyers told the families afterwards, "Datong Court officials did not follow official legal procedures." Wei Haiming and Zhao Zonghua's families asked why they were not informed of the trial ahead of time. The court officials replied sarcastically, "Why did we need to?" -
Shijiazhuang City Court Plans Second Trial for Liu Lina; Her Whole Family Has Been Persecuted
2008-09-19Shijiazhuang City Court officials in Hebei Province plan to hold another trial for Ms. Liu Lina next week. The exact date is unknown. On February 15th, 610 Office agents arrested her at home. They also arrested her husband and her brother and took away her computer and printer. The policemen fabricated evidence and a confession and forced her family members to sign the documents before releasing them. Twelve days later, using the falsified confession as proof, they officially arrested Ms. Liu. Currently, she is detained at the Shijiazhuang City No.1 Detention Centre. -
Paralysed from Torture, Ms. Xiao Yunying Arrested Again
2008-09-18Ms. Xiao Yunying, 58 years old, started practising Falun Gong in 1997. After the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, Xiao Yunying was detained numerous times in a brainwashing centre, but she firmly refused to write the three statements denouncing her belief. During her detention, both her legs became paralysed due to being tortured, and she has needed special care ever since. During the Olympic Torch Relay in Anyang City, Henan Province, Ms. Xiao Yunying was subjected to more persecution, and was sent to the Xinxiang Women's Prison on July 23rd, 2008.
