  • Former President of Nanyang Construction Group Arrested While Purchasing An Airline Ticket

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Xinguang, who is in his fifties, was the former president of Nanyang Construction Group. Mr. Li was on a business trip to Beijing on the morning of June 23rd, 2009, and when he used his personal identification card to purchase an airline ticket, the airline identified him as a Falun Gong practitioner, and he was then detained. On June 26th, he was sent back to a local police station by the Wolong Police Station in Nanyang. His home was ransacked by the police, and he is now being detained at Nanyang First Detention Centre
  • Mr. Tian Haitao Brutally Mistreated and in Critical Condition in Jiamusi Detention Centre

    Mr. Tian Haitao, 46, was arrested by police officers that were monitoring him when he visited the home of a fellow practitioner on February 12th, 2009. The police confiscated all his personal belongings and over 1,500 yuan in cash. One of the officers hit him several times during the arrest. He was then taken to Jiamusi Detention Centre in the evening. Mr. Tian went on a hunger strike to protest the mistreatment. The guard ordered 8 to 9 prisoners to force him down, pry his mouth open, and insert a tube to force feed him salty liquid food. He was also injected with unknown drugs. Later his whole body would hurt.
  • Police Use Tear Gas and Axe to Break Into Mr. Zhang Yu's Home in Manchuri City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

    On August 8th, 2009, several dozen police officers smashed a window and threw tear gas into Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Yu's home, with no regard for the fact that Mr. Zhang's elderly, sick parents and his teenage daughter were inside. Military police then went into Mr. Zhang's home through the broken window. Because the police had broken the lock on Mr. Zhang's door, it could not be opened, so the police used a firefighter's ax to break down the door and took the family of five away. Mr. Zhang's family was arrested because he and his wife practise Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Mr. Zhang and his wife were detained in the Manchuri City Detention Centre.
  • Mr. Wang Shiming and His Family Members Arrested Again

    On July 17th, 2009 Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Shiming, his elder sister Ms. Wang Min, and their mother were arrested by police from the Tianjin Street Police Station of Zhongshan District. Mr. Wang and Ms. Wang are being held in the Dalian Detention Centre. Their mother was released two days later since their 90-year-old grandmother was left at home alone without anyone to take care of her. This is the seventh time Mr. Wang has been arrested, and the fourth time that Ms. Wang has been arrested.
  • Ms. He Yana Detained at the Tianjin City Drug Rehabilitation Centre, Causing Her Daughter to Miss School

    On March 9th, 2009, practitioner Ms. He Yana was arrested by the police when she was reported by an informant while visiting friends in the Hexi district. Afterwards, she was jailed in the Tianjin City Drug Rehabilitation Centre and is still being held there. Her family did not have money to pay the "fine." As a result, the police would not register her daughter as a resident, which in turn made her unable to go to school. In the past five months, Ms. He and her family have suffered a great deal. Her mother suffered from throat cancer, and was unable to speak after the operation. She became inconsolable whenever she thought of her daughter who was being persecuted.
  • Judiciary Officials of a Dandong Court Stop a Lawyer's Defence

    On July 28th, 2009, the Yuanbao District Court of Dandong City, Liaoning Province convened a session to try Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Xiangju. Presiding Judge Wang and criminal court Presiding Judge Ma Shuhe repeatedly told the defence lawyer not to actively defend Ms. Wang Xiangju and not to enter an innocent plea. They threatened a harsher sentence if the lawyer did not comply. Ma Shuhe, the criminal court presiding judge of Yuanbao District Court of Dandong City said, "We will interrupt if the lawyer tries to defend his client. After three such instances, the lawyer will be expelled from the courtroom."
  • Mr. Gu Yunpeng Brutally Tortured, Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

    Falun Gong Practitioner Gu Yunpeng, who was recently released from Xinjian Prison in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province after serving a three-year sentence for practising Falun Gong, was arrested again in February 2009. Once at the Daowai District Detention Centre, the guards tortured him, forcing him to drink water from the toilet, and injecting mustard oil into his nose and mouth while hanging him upside down. They handcuffed and shackled him, connecting the two. On June 16th, 2009, Daowai District Court officials sentenced Mr. Gu to five years' incarceration and sent him to the Xinjian Prison.
  • Ms. Li Wenjuan's Family from Shanghai City Arrested

    Ms. Li Wenjuan and Ms. Zhong Yijun are both in their 60s. On June 5th, 2009, when Ms. Li was visiting Ms. Zhong at her home, they were arrested by police from Shanghai's Putuo District and local 610 officials. The police also arrested Ms. Li's husband and her son-in-law. The simultaneous arrest of the three family members frightened Ms. Li's pregnant daughter to have a miscarriage. After 24 hours of detention in the police station, Ms. Li's husband, who was in poor physical condition, was sent to the hospital. As a protest to the arrest, Ms. Li went on a hunger strike and became very weak physically.
  • Three Family Members Arrested and Detained; Four-Year-Old Deprived of Her Mother

    Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Yin Xunzhen, Ms. Xu Shujie and Ms. Yin Qi were arrested in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province and were arrested for four months. They have still not been released. The police have now submitted these cases to the courts for further persecution. Lin Weijia, Yin Qi's four-year old daughter, misses her mother every day since she was arrested. Every time she sees her mother's picture or the two Chinese characters meaning "Mother," her eyes fill with tears. She even asked, "Will Mum come home after I die?" It has been reported that Ms. Yin Qi has been suffering a torture called "Driving the Train" in the detention centre. This torture involves binding both legs and arms together for ten days continuously.
  • Mr. Gong Yuping from Shandong Province Sent to Wangcun Forced Labour Camp

    On June 1st, 2009, six policemen broke into 55-year-old Mr. Gong Yuping's home without warning while he was taking care of his grandson. They arrested him and several days later sentenced him to one year of forced labour. He is now in Wangcun Forced Labour Camp. In the afternoon of the same day, Mr. Gong's family went to the Jiangshan Police Station to ask for his release, but officers drove them away. Nine days after Mr. Gong was detained, he was sentenced to one year of forced labour.
  • Four Practitioners Tried in Lanzhou City

    On August 3rd, 2009, the Political and Judiciary Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), brought four Falun Gong practitioners to the Chengguan District Court for a trial. These practitioners have been held in the No. 1 Detention Centre in Lanzhou since August 2008. They were tried once before in the same court, on December 29th, 2008. Five months later they were sentenced, but their sentences were not made public. Recently, the court wanted to re-try them, saying it was because "the facts were not clear and the evidence was insufficient."
  • Many Practitioners in Panjin City, Liaoning Province Arrested, Harassed and Homes Ransacked

    On July 21st, 2009, Huang Haiou and Chen Dongjiu, the Deputy Head of the Xinglongtai District Police Department's Domestic Security Division in Panjin City, Liaoning Province, organized about ten officials to break into Ms. Zhai Xiuhua's house and arrested her. The police subsequently ransacked her house and stole many personal belongings including computers and videos. Ms. Zhai Xiuhua is currently held at the Panjin City Detention Centre. In addition, many practitioners in the area have been arrested and harassed.
  • Practitioners Arrested for Helping an Elderly Heart Patient

    74-year-old Mr. Fan experienced heart failure and was taken to the intensive care unit in hospital. They told Mr. Fan's family that his condition was both critical and incurable. He chose to return home. Some of Mr. Fan's friends who were Falun Gong practitioners went to see him. They had experienced Falun Gong's extraordinary power to make people healthy and fit, so they suggested that Mr. Fan read the Falun Gong book, Zhuan Falun. He agreed. Mr. Fan experienced a complete recovery without any medical treatment. On July 21st ten police officers burst into Mr. Fan's home and arrested the four practitioners. The police have still offered no justification for the arrests.
  • Three Sisters from the Putuo District of Shanghai Arrested and Forced to Undergo Brainwashing

    Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Guo Yueqin, Ms. Guo Yuefen and Ms. Guo Yuefang are sisters, all over 60 years old. On May 25th, 2009, policemen went to elder sister Ms.Guo Yueqin's home, ransacked it, and arrested her two young sisters, Ms. Guo Yuefen and Ms. Guo Yuefang. The sisters were then taken to the police station. Currently, Ms. Guo Yuefen is still imprisoned. Ms. Guo Yuefang was released on bail, but later she was taken to a brainwashing centre operated by the local residential committee. Prior to her arrest, Ms. Guo Yuefang invited an attorney from Beijing to represent her sister Ms. Guo Yuefen. This now cannot happen because Ms. Guo Yuefeng is being subjected to brainwashing.
  • Cui Junchen's Family in Wucheng County, Shandong Province Persecuted For Ten Years

    On July 20th, 2009, more than 20 police officers intruded into Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Cui Junchen's home and arrested him and his daughter. In the last ten years Mr. Cui's home was ransacked seven times. Between the family members, there were 13 arrests and imprisonments. Mr. Cui was sent to forced labour for two years. He lost several hundred thousands of yuan in his business of forestry. His mother died because of the persecution. His wife was sent to 18 months of forced labour. Tens of thousands of yuan was extorted from the family.
