  • Mr. Zhao Jun from Heilongjiang Province Arrested During the Olympics and Taken to a Forced Labour Camp

    Mr. Zhao Jun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested by officers from the Qiezihe Police Station during the Olympics on August 29th, 2008. That night, he was tortured and forced to "confess." The next day, Bi Shuqing from the 610 Office and personnel from the police station took him to a forced labour camp. According to incomplete statistics, at least 300 Falun Gong practitioners from Qitaihe City have been subjected to forced labour or sent to prison between 1999 to 2009.
  • Practitioners Gao Dongdong and Liu Xinli from Pingshan County, Hebei Province Persecuted

    Practitioners Gao Dongdong and Liu Xinli are a couple from Zhongbailou Village, Hebei Province. On the morning of July 21st, 2008, just before the Beijing Summer Olympic Games, seven or eight people from the Pingshan County 610 Office, the Pingshan Town government and the radio and TV broadcasting bureau, broke into Ms. Liu Xinli's home. They confiscated a satellite receiver, Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. Ms. Liu was arrested and sent to the Pingshan County Detention Centre. On August 11th, 2008, she was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour and taken to the Zhijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp.
  • Ms. Xue Li from Sichuan Province Arrested in Yueyang City

    On the morning of March, 30th, 2009, practitioner Ms. Xue Li was arrested by officers from the Meixi Township Police Station in Yueyang City. She has now been transferred to the local procuratorial agency, who are attempting to sentence her to prison. Ms. Xue Li's sister-in-law went to see Jiang Chao, the head of the Domestic Security Division, to explain the facts about Falun Gong to him, and request that he does not persecute a good person. But Jiang Chao refused to listen and handed Ms. Xue Li's documents over to the Procuratorate. In March 2008, Ms. Xue Li's brother, Mr. Xue Zhongyi, also a practitioner, was arrested by police.
  • Ms. He Wen, 59, from Beijing Sentenced to Three Years of Forced Labour

    On February 26th, 2009, the police and the 610 Office broke into the home of 59-year-old practitioner, Ms. He Wen, and ransacked it. When Falun Gong materials were found, she was arrested and detained in the Pre-trial Division of Qinghe Jail. For refusing to renounce her belief, on March 16th, 2009 she was sentenced to three years of forced labour by the forced labour directory of the Beijing City government. Ms. He was imprisoned at the Tiantanghe Women's Forced Labour Camp from 2000 to 2002. She was tormented by the prison guards and inmates. Because she held steadfast in her belief, she was taken to the "intensive training" team and put in solitary confinement.
  • Practitioners Arrested Outside of Gaoxin District Court in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province

    Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Xie, 69, and Ms. Yu, 67, were arrested on April 29th, 2009, when they went to the courthouse to attend the trial of Mr. Xie's practitioner brother. Because of their steadfast faith in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, they have been spied on, tracked, and had their personal belongings confiscated. They were also fined, sent to brainwashing centres and detention centres, and had their home ransacked on numerous occasions. In addition, they had to leave home for long periods of time to avoid being arrested and harassed. Their former employer began withholding their retirement pension in March 2009.
  • Zhuhai City Police Arrest the Family of Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Yin Xunzhen

    Mr. Yin Xunzhen and his wife, Ms. Xu Shujie went to visit their daughter, Yin Qi, and her family in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. On April 10th, 2009 police ransacked their home and arrested everyone. Mr. Yin is detained in Doumen Third Detention Centre, and Ms. Xu and their daughter are detained in Doumen Second Detention Centre. Their son-in-law, Lin Fengbin, has been released. Grandma and Grandpa take care of their three-year-old granddaughter. The two became sick as a result of the incident. Although their son is back, they are very worried about the others.
  • Supplementary Information about the Arrest of Ten Falun Gong Practitioners in Sanjiazi Township, Lingyuan City

    Ten Falun Gong practitioners were arrested by police when they were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in July 2008. During the arrest, one policeman held a gun, while another held an electric baton and forcibly opened the practitioners' car door. After they found literature exposing the persecution, they forced everyone to get out of the car and get into the police cars. After practitioner Yun Guolin got out of the police car, he ran toward the gate. Wang Xiaofeng chased him and shot him. Yun Guolin fell, and one of his arms was injured. The police hung him up with ropes and beat him. Several of the practitioners were sentenced to long prison terms.
  • Luzhou City Intermediate Court Judge Prevents Mr. Yang Ming and His Lawyers from Properly Defending Him at His Second Trial

    Jiangyang District Court officials in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province secretly sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Ming to five years in prison on January 8th, 2009. He refused to accept the verdict and appealed. The Luzhou City Intermediate Court then commenced a second trial on April 27th, for his appeal. The second trial was the first one in a decade where the lawyers defended Falun Gong practitioners in Luzhou City since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong. The judge deprived Mr. Yang of his right to self-defence. When Lawyer Liu Wei made positive statements about Falun Gong, Judge Li Xudong immediately interrupted him and shouted, "You are promoting Falun Gong!" When Lawyer Tang Jitian cited facts and evidence, the judge did not let him continue.
  • 18-Year-Old Ms. Wang Yu from Wuhan City Arrested and Sentenced to Forced Labour Camp

    Falun Gong practitioner Wang Yu is only 18 years old and lives in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. Around March 20th, 2009, she was arrested while giving out materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in a market and sentenced to one year at the Hewan Forced Labour Camp. At the brainwashing centre, Wang Yu was jailed in a separate room and closely monitored. She was followed even when she used the toilet. Wang Yu's parents sought her release, but their requests were rejected. The excuse given was that she was not willing to admit her mistake and give up her belief. The parents were told that she wouldn't be released until she writes a guarantee statement promising to give up her belief.
  • Mr. Luo Liteng from Macheng City Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison

    In June 2008, 30-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Luo Liteng was sentenced to 10 years in prison and sent to the Hongshan Prison in Huhan City. Mr. Luo's mother went to the Macheng Public Security Bureau to find out about Mr. Luo's whereabouts, but to no avail. Mr. Luo's father, Mr. Luo Kaijun, was tortured to death by the police. In April 2001, police Macheng City brutally beat Mr. Luo Kaijun. As a result, his body swelled, and both his mouth and nose bled. He could not move and was unable eat or drink water for three consecutive days. He was sent to a hospital for an emergency treatment. The brutal beating left his internal organs severely damaged. His health continued to deteriorate under prolonged persecution. On September 23rd, 2002, Mr. Luo Kaijun passed away.
  • On "International Nurses Day," a Comatose Nurse Is Put on Trial

    On May 12th, "International Nurses Day," nurse and Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liang Xiulan, who was in a deep coma at the time, was put on trial in Qian'an City, Hebei Province. The court did not even notify Ms. Liang Xiulan's family about her trial. The Qian'an City Detention Centre and the brainwashing centre did not want to be held responsible for Ms. Liang's deteriorating health and did not want to keep her in custody. After the trial, the court personnel drove Ms. Liang's physically disabled husband to the court, then took her and her husband home together.
  • Mr. Wang Xiwen Arrested and Denied Visits from His Lawyer

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Xiwen was arrested at his home on March 23rd, 2009. Because he looked at foreign websites, the police intended to sentence him. On April 15th, Mr. Wang's family and the two lawyers that they had hired in Beijing went to the Fengrun Detention Centre to visit Mr. Wang. The detention centre refused to allow them in and told them to talk to the national security team. When his family and lawyers went to the national security team, Chen Ruimin, the team leader, said, "We won't allow you to visit Falun Gong practitioners, since the Falun Gong cases are related to 'state secrets.' The supervisors said they are not allowed to be visited."
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Liu Fuming from Meishan City, Sichuan Province and his Wife Ms. Shi Huafen Arrested Again

    On April 16th, 2009, more than ten policemen forcibly entered the home of practitioner Mr. Liu Fuming. They confiscated Falun Gong books, and other personal belongings. They also arrested Mr. Liu and his practitioner wife Ms. Shi Huafen. It is said that he and his wife are imprisoned at the Dongpo District Detention Centre. In January 2009, Ms. Shi Huafen was arrested and detained for fifteen days. Now she is imprisoned again. Mr. Liu's elder son studies at middle school and his young son is in kindergarten. His parents are over 70 years old.
  • Huanggu District Court in Shenyang City Released Four Falun Gong Practitioners at Their Second Trial

    More and more Falun Gong practitioners who were detained before the Beijing Olympics have been brought to trial in many cities throughout China. Numerous lawyers have stood up to defend practitioners' innocence, which has created a shock wave in the Chinese legal community. On February 6th, 2009, Huanggu District Court in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, convened a second trial for six practitioners. Four of the practitioners were released without further criminal charges being brought against them. They were allowed to return home after ten months of detention. Ms. Wu Yefeng, however, was sentenced to five years in prison, and Mr. Zheng Yi was sentenced to one year in prison.
  • Practitioner Ma Zhenzhu in Zibo City, Shandong Province Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

    Practitioner Ms. Ma Zhenzhu was arrested at home by police in early 2008. The police jailed her for about a year and did not allow her family members to visit her. The family members hired a lawyer and Ms. Ma pleaded not guilty. Unfortunately, the lawyer later succumbed to pressure from the communist party. After accepting the lawyer's fees, he told the family members that although he had managed to see Ms. Ma, he was unable to represent her because she would not give up her belief. In February 2009, Zichuan District Court ran the session without notifying Ms. Ma's family members, and sentenced her to seven years in prison. She is now being held in Jinan Prison in Shandong Province.
