  • At Least 614 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in July 2014

At least 614 Falun Gong practitioners were arrested between July 1st and July 24th across China, according to data collected as of July 27th. Liaoning, Shandong, Jilin, and Sichuan provinces have the most arrests, each with over 70. Most of the arrested practitioners were taken to brainwashing centres for short-term detentions. More than 30 large-scale arrests (of five or more practitioners) took place in July in 13th provinces and municipalities.
  • 70-Year-Old Female Practitioner from Chongqing Detained

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yu Yeyi, 70, has been detained at the Qianzhugou Brainwashing Centre for over a month. The intense brainwashing and mistreatment she has been subjected to has reportedly caused her to be disfigured. Since she refused to renounce her belief in Falun Gong, she is not allowed to have visitors. Officials at the brainwashing centre said that there will be no visitation rights until she “transforms” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong].
  • Eighty-Year-Old Woman Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Ms. Jia Changzhi, 80, was arrested in 2012 and secretly sentenced to three years in the Jilin Women's Prison. Ms. Jia had been arrested and tortured many times by the police since the persecution started in 1999, for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. In 2005, Ms. Jia was arrested by police and interrogated for over 10 hours, as she was carrying Falun Gong informational materials, and the police wanted to know who gave her them. She was tortured because she refused to tell them. Officer Zhang Naijiang claimed: “Despite your age, I shall find two beggars to rape you.” After 10 plus hours of torture, her body was covered with bruises. Even her feet turned black and blue. ThMs. Jia's hands were cuffed to the window frame and her feet were shackled. The top of her feet could barely touch the floor.
  • Real Estate Executive Loses Sight in His Left Eye While in Detention

Mr. Li Xiaobo, a real estate executive, was arrested for distributing flyers about Falun Gong. His attorney recently met with him and found out that he had lost sight in his left eye. The authorities have denied his request for medical parole, and his family members are very concerned about him. Mr. Li and his son, Mr. Li Zhe, were arrested by officers from the Hong’an Police Station on April 12th, 2014. Mr. Li Zhe, who is a Canadian citizen, was repatriated soon after.
  • Black Jail Profile: Mishan City Brainwashing Centre in Heilongjiang Province

Mishan Brainwashing Centre is called a “Law School,” although it is actually a black jail. Mishan Brainwashing Centre was opened in June 2011, and 22 practitioners had been incarcerated there by 2012. In 2013, officials promised their superiors that they would “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] ten practitioners. After they met this quota, they would be awarded 200,000 yuan. The average reward is 20,000 yuan for "transforming" one practitioner. Driven by greed and the promise of advancement, another wave of persecution started in June 2013.
  • Court Lies to Defence Attorney, Tries Practitioner Secretly and Without Counsel

There is no honour in China's legal system. The family of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Guiqi learned that firsthand, when they hired lawyers to defend Mr. Wang. Mr. Wang was forced to appear in many secret hearings between March and November 2013, without legal counsel. And the court intended to bypass his lawyer and try him in June 2014.
  • School Children Targeted for Brainwashing by the 610 Office in Guangxi Province

The “Youth Education Centre Against Heretical Organisations” was established in Baise City, Guangxi Province, in May 2014. It is another way the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) brainwashes school children into being against Falun Gong. Videos, audios, window displays, books, bulletin boards, charts, and pictures slandering Falun Gong and its founder are employed. Dongjing Central Elementary School held a signature assembly on April 16th. Teachers and students were to sign a pledge slandering Falun Gong.
  • Practitioners Recall Suspicious Blood Draws in Mudanjiang Prison and Daxing Women's Forced Labour Camp

I was sentenced to four years in Mudanjiang Prison for practising Falun Gong. Between 2002 and 2006, I underwent three “health checkups.” Each time, they took my blood pressure and drew a syringe of blood. When I was released I read the reports about organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners while they were still alive. It has come to light that in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) prisons and forced labour camps all over China, practitioners have been subjected to “health checkups,” and their blood is taken for tests.
  • Heilongjiang Women's Prison: Wards Dedicated to Systematic Brainwashing

Heilongjiang Women's Prison has played an infamous role in the Chinese regime's persecution of Falun Gong. Special wards were designated specifically for “transforming” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] Falun Gong practitioners, attempting to force them to renounce their beliefs through coercive brainwashing and physical abuse. The prison employs a systematic “transformation” process: incoming practitioners are first subjected to beatings and other forms of physical abuse. Baojia then work to persuade them to renounce their beliefs, often using guard-sanctioned violence. As a part of the same process, practitioners are also forced to watch propaganda videos.
  • A Close Look at the Brainwashing Industry in China: Policies, Funding, and Scale

After the Chinese regime shut down its labour camps late last year, they were replaced by “black jails,” or extralegal detention centres, as documented by Amnesty International's December 2013 report. In other words, the same human rights abuses continue, but are simply hidden in more secretive facilities. Over the 15-year persecution of Falun Gong, its practitioners have gathered extensive, firsthand information about brainwashing centres, a common type of black jail and a strange industry of its own. These brainwashing centres are established to “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] Falun Gong practitioners, i.e. force them to renounce their beliefs through coercion, and physical and psychological torture.
  • Blood Sample Drawn for No Apparent Reason at Liaoning Women's Prison

Since organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners in China was first exposed in 2006, many practitioners have come to a shocking realization. The unexplained physical examinations and blood tests they were forced to go through while detained could very well have put them in danger of becoming a victim of this state-sanctioned crime.
  • Beijing Practitioner Still Detained Despite His Precarious Health Condition

Just five months after his release from eight years of imprisonment in May 2013, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Zicheng was arrested again along with his wife Zhang Aiping on October 29th. He had developed a debilitating leg problem as a result of torture during his earlier incarceration, and the latest arrest worsened his condition. Nevertheless, Pinggu District Court went ahead with a trial of him and his wife on June 26th, 2014. Unable to walk, he was still shackled and handcuffed, and was literally dragged into the courtroom by four bailiffs.
  • Sixteen Falun Gong Practitioners in China Arrested for Their Belief

When police officers in China arrest Falun Gong practitioners, their actions are unlawful, because these people have not broken any law. Policemen frequently break into practitioners' homes and steal anything they want. Though it is called “confiscation,” they actually rob practitioners of their personal belongings. Sixteen Falun Gong practitioners from Fushun City, Liaoning Province were arrested on June 20th, 2014. While seven have been released, the rest are being held at the Fushun Detention Centre.
  • Ms. Wang E Brutally Tortured and Her Whereabouts Unknown

  • Ms. Bao Yan Severely Injured while Trying to Escape Arrest

To escape arrest, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Bao Yan from Shenyang City jumped out of the fourth floor window of her residence and was injured severely. Police arrested her son Mr. Zhang Lei and ransacked their home. Ms. Bao needed money for medical treatment, however, the 10,000 yuan she had left at home was stolen by the police.
