On Friday February 2nd 2007, practitioners of Falun Gong gathered at a government building in Bratislava. They intended to ask Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to bring up the issue of human rights and the persecution of Falun Gong during his visit to China between the 5th and the 9th of February 2007. The appeal caught the attention of the media and all four TV stations broadcast coverage of the gathering on the evening news. Some also elaborated and discussed the human rights situation in China and the existence of forced labour camps.
The practitioners also submitted to the government an official petition with more than three thousand signatures, asking for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong. The overall number of signatures on this petition, counting signatures submitted to the Slovak foreign ministry in 2004 and 2005, reached over seven thousand.
A few news photographers from media agencies came to take pictures and some of them added their signature to the petition and wished us success.
The goal of the gathering was to draw the attention of the Slovak delegation travelling to China to the seven year persecution of Falun Gong in China and to recent news about organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners in Chinese concentration camps. This atrocity has been confirmed by an updated report from former Canadian State Secretary David Kilgour and attorney David Matas.
