Ms. Xu Hongmei and Ms. Shen Zili Tortured to Death in Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province (Photos)

On February 17th, 2007, Falun Dafa practitioners Ms. Xu Hongmei and Ms. Shen Zili from Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province were taken to the Internal Medicine Department of the Qiqihar City Second Hospital with ankle shackles on. They had been tortured for five days by policeman Yi Zhanhui, and others from the Qingyun Street Station in Longsha District, Qiqihar City. They both had lost consciousness and could not eat; they were coughing up blood and twitching. Their entire bodies were swollen. The officers of the Qiqihar City 610 Office, Longsha District 610 Office¹, the City Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Political and Judiciary Committee, and Police Departments came to the Hospital frequently, attempting to extort 20,000 yuan² from the practitioners' families, promising to release the practitioners if they were paid. Their families had no money to pay. The officials then said that they would not be released even if they died in the hospital. Ms. Xu Hongmei died at 4:30 p.m., on February 27th, at age 37. Ms. Shen Zili died at 8:50 p.m. on the same day, at 49 years old.

At around 4:00 p.m., on January 13th, 2007, when Ms. Shen Zili, Ms. Xu Hongmei and Ms. Hou Yaqian (all had been forced to leave their homes due to persecution) arrived at Ms. Hou Yaqian's temporary residence, a group of policemen suddenly broke in and arrested them and forcefully took them to the Qingyun Street Police Station. Policeman Yi Zhanhui dragged Ms. Xu Hongmei to the first floor from the fourth floor, where he used all kinds of cruel torture methods, such as tying her to a bed with her legs and arms stretched far apart, and tying her up like a stick. He then hung her upside down four times, and upright once. Ms. Xu Hongmei shouted "Falun Dafa is good!" The policemen beat her until she lost consciousness. Yi Zhanhui woke her up with cold water and continued torturing her. He then locked her in a metal cage. The police from Qingyun Street Station tied Ms. Shen Zili to a chair with adhesive tape and knocked her head against the wall until she lost consciousness. They continued beating her after she regained consciousness.

Practitioners Ms. Shen Zili and Ms. Xu Hongmei had been on a hunger strike (no food or water) for around 40 days to protest against their illegal imprisonment. No matter how these policemen tortured them, they refused to give in, or provide other practitioners' information. The police then took the dying Ms. Xu Hongmei and Ms. Shen Zili to the Qiqihar City Detention Centre. Their bodies were covered with injuries.

These CCP officials never notified the families of Ms. Shen Zili, Ms. Xu Hongmei or Ms. Hou Yaqian, nor did they go through any legal procedures. Their families were looking for them everywhere. When they went to the Qingyun Street Police Station, policemen accidentally leaked their whereabouts by asking, "Who told you they are detained here?" Ms. Shen Zili and Ms. Xu Hongmei's families were trying to rescue them by visiting the Qiqihar City 610 Office at the Qingyun Street Police Station. The officers they met were all very rude. The Qingyun Street police chief, Gong Yanhui, said that these practitioners would be put on trial soon. He ignored the fact that their lives were in danger, and refused to release them.

In the afternoon of February 13th, police officers put ankle shackles on the practitioners and took them to Rooms 423 and 424 of the Internal Medicine Department in the Qiqihar City Second Hospital. Because policemen Yi Zhanhui and Zhou Huanyu from the Qingyun Street Station tried to get a confession by torture, both Ms. Shen Zili and Ms. Xu Hongmei had severe internal injuries. They were unconscious most of the time, their mouths were bleeding, they were coughing up blood and twitching. Their entire bodies were swollen and their internal organs were failing. Their electrolytes were unbalanced, and their blood pressure was very low. They vomited whatever they ate and were totally emaciated.

However, the Qiqihar City 610 Office, Qiqihar City Police Department, Qiqihar City CCP Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs, Longsha District 610 Office, Longsha District Police Department, Longsha District CCP Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs and the Qingyun Street Police Station demanded 20,000 yuan from their family members in order to release them. Longsha District Police Department Deputy Chief Zhang Hang went to the hospital every day to try and get the money. Ms. Shen Zili's family members had already been extorted out of 20,000 yuan when she was arrested previously. The police have not returned the money. The family had no choice but to look at their dying loved one with tears in their eyes because they could not afford to pay another 20,000 yuan. Hearing that the families had no money to pay, the officials said that they would never release them, even if they died.

After both women were injected with "bovine serum albumin," they appeared to be dying and were in a deep coma. Ms. Xu Hongmei's nine-year-old daughter, Tiantian, went to visit her mother, but her mum could not hear her or recognise her. Because of the persecution, little Tiantian hardly even got to live with her mother, and now her mother has left her forever. This poor little girl grew up being discriminated against, and suffered from being separated from her parents. Her father, Sun Weimin, is still detained in Tailai Prison, and Tiantian has to live with her grandparents. She cannot understand why her Mum and Dad were detained for being good people, and why her Mum was tortured to death.

The Chinese Constitution states, "people have freedom of belief," and "no organisations or individuals are allowed to interfere with a citizen's freedom of belief with any excuse." But the Qiqihar City 610 office, the Longsha District 610 Office, the City CCP Political and Judiciary Committee, and Police Departments ignore the law, follow the CCP to do harm, and murder kind-hearted people.

We call on world human rights organisations, the World Organisation to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), and all people of justice to extend a helping hand to stop the cruel persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. We should not let the tragedies of Ms. Shen Zili and Ms. Xu Hongmei reoccur! We should not let young souls like Tiantian be damaged again! Please help rescue Falun Dafa practitioners Ms. Hou Yaqian, Ms. Yang Min, Mr. Qi Dawei, and Ms. Lu Huanzhen, still detained in the Qiqihar City Detention Centre.
