Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Qingmei from Anqiu City, Shandong Province was arrested on July 24, 2001 while she was distributing Dafa truth-clarifying materials. She was beaten many times until she could not stand up. She went on a hunger strike for as long as 48 days to protest the persecution, during which period the police force-fed her. Liu Qingmei suffered so much brutality that she was on the verge of death. Fearing that she might die in prison, the police drove her to a remote place and dumped her by the roadside. Liu Qingmei became destitute after that, and could not return home.

Later, Liu Qingmei was arrested again in January and also in April 2002, when she suffered inhumane torture. On October 28, 2002 police from Anqiu City once again abducted Liu Qingmei from the room she rented and tortured her using various methods. Her hands and feet were handcuffed together so that she could not stand up; she was forced to stay outside in the winter; she was forced to sit on a metal chair for long periods of tome, also a form of torture. At the moment, Liu Qingmei is unable to stand up nor is she able to eat, and she is in critical condition. Liu Qingmei told the fellow practitioners who were to be released, "If I die, my death would be caused by police torture. Do not let people be deceived with the lies of 'suicide.'" We have heard that Liu Qingmei was illegally sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on February 21, 2003, by the court in Anqiu City.
