On Sunday the 12th of April, UK Falun Dafa practitioners took part in the Edinburgh Easter Festival Cavalcade. This parade is a celebration of Easter and is a warm-up for the big Edinburgh Festival Cavalcade in the summer. The weather was very different from the rain of previous days with a fine and clear afternoon. Many of the tens of thousands of spectators already knew Falun Dafa because practitioners have won first prize in the Community section of the parade for the last two years and have received a lot of favourable media attention.
Practitioners’ entrance in the parade consisted of several different sections. Female practitioners developed the Fan Dance and Lotus Dance that they performed in previous years and treated the audience to 2 new dances: the Heavenly Beauty Dance and Umbrella Dance. The Umbrella Dance uses traditional Chinese sun umbrellas that are spun along with the music composed by a Dafa practitioner called “Spinning Falun”. Both male and female practitioners took part in a waist drum performance, which is well known in Chinese tradition. Many colourful banners were part of the parade displaying the Falun Emblem and containing messages such as “The World Needs Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance”, “Falun Dafa” and also a large banner wishing the people of the world a happy Easter holiday.
Leaflets were handed out to the thousands of people lining the streets of Edinburgh letting them know about the practice of Falun Dafa, which has brought mental and physical wellbeing to one hundred million practitioners in 60 countries, and the brutal persecution that is happening in China and has already claimed the lives of over 900 innocent people. One practitioner who took part in the parade exclaimed, "By displaying traditional Chinese culture in today's Easter festivities, practitioners are showing the beauty and majesty of Falun Dafa and letting people see the spirit of Dafa practitioners, who are still noble and compassionate under the most brutal persecution in China." Many people exclaimed messages of support for Falun Gong and praised their efforts in creating this performance. People were keen to learn more about Falun Gong. The parade was a big success.
