On April the 4th 2004, A German-based International Human Rights Association submitted a five point resolution of to the European Parliament, calling on the European Parliament to pay close attention to and condemn China's crackdown on Falun Gong and violations of human rights. The following report is based on a broadcast by Tian Yi, a German reporter for Radio Free Asia.
A Human Rights Association based in Germany has been paying close attention to China's human rights problems. At their annual general meeting last year, they passed a resolution asking the German government to express concern over China's crackdown on Falun Gong and to help release the imprisoned Falun Gong practitioner Xiong Wei. Last weekend, regarding the crackdown on Falun Gong and China's human rights problems, they passed a five-point resolution based on last year's resolution and submitted it to the European Parliament.
The Chinese officials directly responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong are mentioned in the resolution, such as Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang, most of whom have been sued in European courts for genocide.
The third point of the resolution in particular asked the European countries to investigate the persecution directed against overseas Chinese Falun Gong practitioners by China's embassies or consulates, or by local governments pressured by China. For example, during Jiang's visit to Germany and Iceland, Falun Gong practitioners' human rights were curtailed and infringed.
The five-point resolution particularly demanded the European Parliament to call on enterprises that have commercial relations with China to be concerned about China's human rights problems and not to be used by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. In addition, the German based Human Rights Association asked European governments to continuously inform the relevant enterprises and companies of China's human rights situations. After the meeting, the five-point resolution was immediately submitted to the European Parliament.
