Under the repeated torture of more than one and a half years of illegal forced labour and ten months in brainwashing centres, 32-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhu Xia from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province was severely devastated mentally and physically. She was also subjected to sleep deprivation for long periods of time. As a result, she suffered a mental breakdown.

In April 2001, Ms. Zhu Xia was illegally arrested and imprisoned at the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp in Zizhong City, Sichuan Province. In order to force her to give up her belief in Falun Dafa, starting in May 2002, the labour camp authorities used horrible torture methods on her. After her term expired, the Chengdu City "610 Office" refused to release her, and they had her detained in brainwashing centres. It has been verified that in the brainwashing centres, under the torture and long-term sleep deprivation, Ms. Zhu Xia's suffered a mental collapse and has not been able to recover from it.
