On International Day Against Torture, Saturday June 26th 2004, practitioners of Falun Gong from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Great Britain met in Brno, the capital of Moravia, to demonstrate the exercises in the main thoroughfare, Ceska Street, and to let the public know about the terrible persecution of Falun Gong practitioners currently taking place in China.
The International Day Against Torture was a great opportunity to tell the citizens of Brno about the appalling treatment of people in China who try to live their lives by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.
Some people stopped to read with interest the information boards about the nature of Falun Dafa, as well as to look at photographs of some of the victims of the brutality in China. Many watched the peaceful exercises and meditation, which were accompanied by gentle music.
Practitioners who run four classes a week in the city’s main park were meeting an unusual amount of people who wanted to learn the exercises and get information on how to find the exercise sites. It was encouraging to see five teenagers joining in to learn the exercises and then sitting down with practitioners in the street to meditate.
Others were shocked by the terror of the torture and its many victims shown on the display boards. These people then signed petitions expressing their support and asked how they could assist and what could they do to help bring the perpetrators of this genocide to justice.
The editor of a local newspaper interviewed practitioners and was interested to learn more about the past and present of Falun Dafa and about the persecution in China. Good articles with pictures of the exercises appeared the next day. The activities of practitioners also received support from a Member of Parliament.
