On July 1st, practitioners from Goteborg and nearby cities gathered at the Chinese Embassy in heavy rain to protest the shooting incident that took place recently in South Africa.

On hearing about Zeng Qinghong and Bo Xilai’s state visit to South Africa between 27th and 29th of June, three Swedish Falun Gong practitioners arrived in South Africa to join local practitioners to appeal to end the persecution and prepare lawsuits against these two Chinese senior officials. They planned to go to the presidential guest house in the capital Pretoria with practitioners from Taiwan and Australia the next day to conduct a peaceful appeal.

However, at 8pm the next day, practitioners from Australia were attacked by gunmen on their way to the presidential guest house, of whom David Liang was the only one who was wearing clothes with the insignia ‘Falun Dafa’ and was shot in his feet. The bones of one foot were shattered. The South African police believed it was a case of attempted murder. This is one of the most serious incidents overseas that Falun Gong practitioners have been subjected to and it has shocked the world's people. A great deal of foreign media have reported this incident.

Since July 1999, the ex-head of China Jiang Zemin has been hell-bent on carrying out his genocide policy against Falun Gong practitioners, which has led to at least 998 practitioners being persecuted to death in China. Among his followers, Zeng Qinghong and Bo Xilai are two main accomplices

To inhibit Falun Gong practitioners peaceful protest, Jiang and his accomplices have used various insidious means:

During his visit to Germany in April 2002, Jiang and his followers threatened stop the visit as a measure applied to the German police and caused irrational restriction on Falun Gong practitioners freedom, which violated their human rights. Two years later, German police finally apologised to Falun Gong practitioners officially and also saw clearly the lies of Jiang's evil regime.

During Jiang's visit to Iceland in June 2002, under pressure, Iceland police and airline companies prevented quite a few practitioners from coming into the country, which caused many good-hearted Icelandic people to protest the violation of Falun Gong practitioners’ human rights and to also apologise to Falun Gong practitioners publicly in one of the largest newspapers.

In May 2003, in fear of catching a glimpse of Falun Gong practitioners, the Jiang group put pressure on the Thai police to force them to irrationally detain a Swedish practitioner who was living in Thailand, which attracted attention from people around the world and caused a protest from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Families of a practitioner who went to South Africa to appeal, remarked that this shooting incident was a contemptible measure of the Jiang gang who fear to see Falun Gong practitioners’ peaceful appeals and are prepared to use any despicable means to prevent a lawsuit being initiated. The gun-fire was not just aimed at David Liang but at every Falun Gong practitioner who went to appeal and initiate the lawsuit.

The Swedish Falun Dafa Association strongly condemned the Jiang gang’s terrorist behaviour against Falun Gong practitioners in the announcement, an appeal was made to the South African government to apprehend the thugs and hoped more good people in the world would stand out to condemn the persecution.
