When I arranged the permit for an information booth at the Ruhr-University-Bochum on July the 2nd 2004, the employee remembered me from last time and asked me anxiously about the human rights situation in China. He wondered if there were any positive improvements. I told him that our efforts helped some people gain their freedom. However those we could help are those with strong ties to Western countries. They either studied in, or have a family member who had emigrated to a Western country. Unfortunately, Falun Gong practitioners who were born and lived in China, those without any connection to the West, still suffer brutal persecution.
We opened our booth in front of the University’s administrative offices. Many students passed by and accepted leaflets but most were in a hurry and had no time to talk. One student told us that she had read our flyer when she had some free time and was very upset about what she heard. She wanted to take part in our effort to collect petition signatures calling for an end to the persecution.
A practitioner from Russia spoke for a long time with a fellow Russian. They both agreed that it is proper to live and behave by the principles of Falun Dafa - Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance - and that it is completely unjust to detain people in a labour camp for trying to be good people.
I spoke with a student from Tunisia. She said that she always found it hard to become calm, especially after a hard day's work, and that she wanted to find inner peace. I told her that I also found it hard to become tranquil before I practised Falun Gong but since starting to practise I have been able to attain inner tranquillity. She took one of our newspapers and plans to contact her local practice site.
Many Chinese people study at the Ruhr-University-Bochum. Some are surprised to see Westerners practising Falun Gong and came over to get a Video-CD to find out more information about what is really happening with Falun Gong in China. We would like to thank the Ruhr-University-Bochum for this opportunity to help people in China.
