On the 7th and the 10th of July 2004, Falun Gong practitioners in Malmö gathered on Gustav Adolfs square to inform the public about the shooting incident in South Africa. Five Falun Gong practitioners from Australia were on their way from Johannesburg International Airport to Pretoria to file a lawsuit against the Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong and the trade minister Bo Xilai who both have close ties to Jiang Zemin and controlling roles in the persecution of Falun Gong. Their car was shot at. David Liang, who drove the car, was severely wounded in both his feet.
Because of this incident, which shows the seriousness of the Jiang regime’s persecution against Falun Gong even outside China, practitioners in Malmö gathered on Gustav Adolfs square to inform the public and call for a end to the persecution, which has lasted for almost five years.
The weather was sunny, although it had rained for several weeks in Malmö. Practitioners handed out information about the shooting-incident in South Africa to passers-by and many people stopped to watch the exercise demonstrations. A lot of people were already aware of the persecution and expressed their worries after hearing that it is also happening outside China.
During both days people expressed their wish to learn the Falun Gong exercises. One woman said that she had wanted to learn Falun Gong for a long time and that had been looking everywhere.
