On November the 15th 2004, Karlstad University presented an exhibition about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. The exhibition was part of a larger five-week exhibition, arranged by Amnesty International, with a theme of exposing violence against women all over the world.

More than half of the 1157 deaths officially documented in the persecution against Falun Gong in China have been female. They are of different ages and from different social classes. The persecution of female Falun Gong practitioners provides many examples of the lawless brutality, violence and sadistic torture methods used by authorities in China. Female practitioners are raped, stripped naked and forced into male prisoners' cells, the police insert hot pepper powder into female practitioners' vaginas and force them to write "repentance letters" that indicate repentance for practising Falun Dafa and a promise to no longer practise. These same guards even inserted electric batons into practitioners' vaginas to shock them.

In Beijing, several policemen stripped a female practitioner naked and sexually abused her in public. Female practitioners have been expelled from their jobs, schools, and party membership, and have therefore lost their livelihoods. The practitioners have been beaten, arrested and according to the Falun Dafa Information Centre, between 200,000 and 1 million have been illegally sent to forced labor camps without trials.

The exhibition was situated in the library's admission hall of the University and can be seen by students, teachers and visitors. In the exhibition, one can view photos, read the information boards, study a summary of the United Nation’s reports concerning the persecution of Falun Gong in China and read a special report that lists the women who have died during the persecution from various methods of torture. There is also information about Friends of Falun Gong, a non-governmental organisation run by people who do not practise Falun Dafa but support an end to the persecution of practitioners, the Falun Gong Human Rights Working Group and addresses to different websites that advocate an end to the persecution.
