Ms. Li Sufen, 58, lived near Anshan City, Liaoning Province. She suffered from many illnesses, but all of them were healed after she began Falun Gong practice. In 1999, Jiang Zemin's political faction started persecuting Falun Gong. In May 2000, to speak up for Falun Gong by citing her own experience of having benefited from practising, she went to Beijing to peacefully appeal. On the way there she was arrested and taken back to the Moyunshan Police Station, where the policemen violently beat her. Later she was sent to Anshan City's Detention Centre and was incarcerated there for two weeks. After she returned home, she continued her steadfast Falun Gong practice. Her husband feared repercussions from the authorities, so in order to prevent her from studying the Falun Dafa teachings or practising the exercises, he burnt her book "Zhuan Falun".(1) Seeing this, she suffered a sudden stroke. Since then her health and mental state steadily deteriorated. She passed away on October 1, 2004.

Ms. Kang Yuxia, 48, lived in Faku Town, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province and was a worker at a water supply company. She previously had suffered from asthma, which disappeared after she learned Falun Gong. She practiced firmly. After the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal. On her way to Beijing, police arrested her and took her back. Since that time she was often harassed and persecuted by personnel from the "610 Office"(2), the street administration office, and the town government. In October 1999, she was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She passed away on April 16, 2000.
