Every year on March the 8th, International Women's Day, various activities are held in the Canary Islands in southern Spain, including conferences, debates, yoga, and Tai Chi. On this year’s International Women’s Day, the activity organiser invited Falun Gong practitioners to participate and introduce Falun Gong to the public by demonstrating and teaching the five sets of exercises.

The host arranged a venue for practitioners to introduce Falun Gong and around one hundred people attended. They showed tremendous curiosity and brought up questions one after another. People were very eager to learn more. When we told them about the persecution of practitioners in China, they were shocked. They supported Falun Gong practitioners’ peaceful fight for human rights and their call for an immediate end to the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution.

When the five sets of Falun Gong exercises were taught, people were interested and many wanted to learn straight away. Some even fully memorised the exercises during the class. Though some people had never experienced Qigong or were unfamiliar with meditation, they were serious and did their best. One lady said, “I feel peace inside my heart when practising these exercises.” Some said that it was hard to express how they felt and it was like a hot stream flowing through their body. A young girl said, “I have no idea why I feel so excited when I do these exercises.” One of the conference organisers said that he felt like joining the exercise class when he saw how pleased everyone was but he was at work so he couldn’t join.

The people of the Canary Islands were very happy to welcome Falun Gong. The organisers of the event and people who move in similar circles were keen to get contact details for the practitioners. At the end of the activities the organiser gave everyone an evaluation sheet. Almost everyone wrote that Falun Gong is good for mental and physical health, improves quality of life and serves as a good way of living.

On International Women’s Day this year, a great amount of people from different places on this island came to learn about Falun Gong. They said that they would tell their friends and relatives that Falun Gong is good and would invite practitioners to go and teach them the five sets of exercises. Some said, “I really wish that Falun Gong would join our residential association, elderly association, cultural association...etc.” Indeed, this great and sacred thing spread quickly on our island.
