On March 16, 2005, the Jilin Province Yanji City Court held a secret court session trying Falun Gong practitioners. During the session, five of the practitioners requested their immediate, unconditional release while defending themselves in an upright way.

The judge panicked, and feeling guilty, forced the practitioners to stop reading their defence documents. In the end, the court officials hurriedly ended the session without any verdict. The lawless officials behaved like buffoons during the entire process.

These five practitioners were abducted on the night of May 26, 2004 by authorities from the Yanji City Yilan Police Station. Two sites that produced and distributed Falun Gong related documents highlighting the persecution, as well as two residences, were searched and damaged. The materials and belongings were illegally searched and confiscated.

The police ransacked and confiscated machines, equipment and personal belongings at the sites, which are valued at over 100,000 yuan (1). They also removed everything including bowls, chopsticks and shoes, leaving only an empty house. The police also pocketed the rental fees that they forcibly took from the landlord, which amounted to nine months of rent that the practitioners had paid in advance.

That night policemen inhumanly tortured the practitioners in an attempt to extort confessions. Several practitioners were beaten so severely that they sustained terrible injuries. After suffering all sorts of physical abuse, the practitioners were sent to the Yanji City Detention Centre. Cai Fuchen's legs were severely damaged and he could not walk. During the ten-month illegal detention, the police strictly blocked information and did not allow the practitioners' family members to visit.
