Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Shen Xuelan was from Liaoning Province. She lived in Guangdong Province with her son Hu Hui who also practises Falun Dafa and works at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Soon after the persecution began on July 20, 1999, she went to the provincial government to appeal for Dafa. She was detained, and authorities pressured her son and forced him to resign from his job. Shen Xuelan was forced to return to Liaoning Province, where she passed away in late 1999.

Shen Xuelan, 63, previously suffered from diabetes but the symptoms disappeared after she learned about Falun Dafa in 1996 from her son and began the practice. She grew increasingly healthy.

She moved to Guangzhou City in 1998 to live with her son Hu Hui. Her quality of life improved and her face was ruddy and glowed with health. She did not look like a woman in her 60s.

After learning that the government banned Dafa on July 20, 1999, the next day she went to the provincial government to appeal. Her son was subsequently detained and held for 15 days. During this period, authorities broke the lock on her door, ransacked her home, and took her Dafa books, cassette player, and many other things. Officers from the university security division interrogated Shen Xuelan for an entire afternoon. She was under tremendous pressure and she was also concerned for her son's safety.

Her home phone was tapped and she was constantly monitored. Her son was forced to resign, move out of the employees' dormitory, and start looking for another job. Shen Xuelan returned to Liaoning Province. Shen Xuelan showed symptoms of illness and passed away approximately 20 days later.
