On the 12th of August 2005, the World Track and Field Championship Tournament took place in Helsinki. Falun Gong practitioners from Finland, Sweden, and Norway held a live anti-torture exhibition in Helsinki’s central park to expose the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) six long years of persecution against Falun Gong practitioners, a persecution that was launched by former CCP leader Jiang Zemin.

Anti-torture exhibitions consist of practitioners acting out some of the brutal methods of torture used against their fellow practitioners in China. In an attempt to follow Jiang Zemin’s orders to “eradicate Falun Gong”, the Chinese Communist Party will go to any lengths to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their beliefs.

During the Tournament, Helsinki was packed with tourists. The same park hosted half a dozen other performances. The Falun Gong site was at the centre of the park. Large numbers of tourists stopped to watch the anti-torture exhibition and peaceful exercise demonstration.

The activities called on the kind conscience of tourists and media who were in Helsinki that day to help stop the persecution. People had the chance to take leaflets to find out more and sign a petition calling for an end to the persecution.

Many tourists took pictures of the anti-torture exhibition and some came to chat with practitioners. With the developing of these photos, the truth of the persecution against Falun Gong will spread to even more people.

One lady could not stop crying while watching the anti-torture exhibition. Her male companion wanted to drag her away. Instead, she went straight to the table where the petition signature forms were and signed. Later, the gentleman signed as well.

A reporter from Sweden’s EX3M radio station interviewed a Swedish practitioner about the day’s activity.
