The Vice President of the European Parliament Travels to China to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners

The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Edward McMillan-Scott, went to China on May 21st; he spent three days investigating the human rights situation in China. He met with diplomats, experts, scholars, NGOs and other individuals including Falun Gong practitioners in Beijing who knew the truth of the persecution.

Ten years ago, in 1996, the EU appointed Mr Edward McMillan as a Foreign Affair Committee special investigator, McMillan prepared the report on the EU-China strategic relations and so he studied a lot about China at that time. He said, ten years later, he was even sadder to report that the China regime is still a brutal, arbitrary, paranoid system. In which, free speech does not exist, newspaper reporting is constrained, people’s religious freedom is severely stripped. He learned that the process of political and social reform has never improved.

McMillan-Scott said that Falun Gong played an incredible role in Chinese society. He was very pleased to meet with Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China. He said it made him sad when they told him their life experiences, not only sad for themselves but for anybody else who has religious belief and is persecuted by the regime. He believes one of the important elements for the future of China is the movement of quitting the Chinese communist party membership right now.

After his three days visiting Beijing, McMillan arrived in Hong Kong on May 24th for a News Forum. In the forum he addressed that the Chinese regime hasn’t made any progress in the last ten years, it is still a brutal, arbitrary and paranoid system. He believes that the Communist regime will disintegrate, he expressed his support for quitting communist party membership, he said ten and a half million who have quit the CCP was not enough; he hoped that a hundred percent Communist party members would tear up their party card.
