Ms. Liu Xizhen was a 64-year-old Dafa practitioner from Hongxing Farm, Qianguo County, Songyuan City, Jilin Province. Before practising Falun Dafa, she suffered from a myriad of diseases, could not move freely, and had tense relations with her family. Since she began practising Dafa in 1999, all her diseases were miraculously cured and her family relationships became harmonious.

On July 20th, 1999 the criminal Jiang regime and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began their ruthless persecution of Falun Dafa and Dafa practitioners. Ms. Liu went to Changchun City with several dozen practitioners to appeal to the local government for the release of all arrested Falun Gong volunteer coordinators on July 21st, but they were intercepted by policemen that night while on the train and brought back to their hometown, where they were imprisoned for the night. On July 23rd, the farm authorities set up a brainwashing centre and Ms. Liu was sent there for seven days. On September 2nd, she and a dozen other practitioners went to Hongguang Farm for a large-scale exercise practice. When she returned, Ms. Liu was sent to another brainwashing centre for eleven days by farm authorities. On the orders of local detention centre chief Liu Zhenli, Liu Xizhen was sent to the detention centre and persecuted with brainwashing for another ten days on January 30th. During her time in the brainwashing centre, Ms. Liu was forced to read and watch Dafa-defaming books and videos.

In order to appeal Liu Xizhen travelled to Beijing on December 26th, 2000 with a few other practitioners, but they were arrested on the train. They were brought back to their hometown and imprisoned for more than fifty days. They were harshly abused by the prison staff and tortured by criminals, who urinated on them. They were also fed unhulled, rotten corn soaked in water. Liu Xizhen spent her entire Chinese New Year in the detention centre. Before releasing Ms. Liu, the Public Security Bureau extorted 5,000 yuan1 from her family, promising to return it a year later. When Ms. Liu's family members tried to get their money back a year later, however, the Public Security Bureau broke their promise and refused to return it. Due to their difficult circumstances, the family was left without enough money to buy seed and fertiliser for the next year.

Since winter of 2000, Liu Xizhen had received constant threats, her house has been broken into by Liu Zhenli, and policemen from the County Public Security Bureau extorted money from her. The evildoers often broke into her house late at night, using pry bars on her door. Ms. Liu suffered tremendous mental pressure and lived under constant stress. On December 28th, 2001, when Liu Zhenli's gang broke into Liu Xizhen's house again, he extorted 200 yuan from her family members (non-practitioners), threatening that if they didn't pay he would take Liu Xizhen away again.

One time, Liu Zhenli broke into Ms. Liu's house again and tried to grab a Dafa book from her hands, but she refused to let go. Liu Zhenli threw her to the ground with a shove and walked out of the house. When Liu Xizhen chased him out of the building, Liu Zhenli mocked her, waving her Dafa books at her, and then he drove away in his car. Liu Xizhen was severely distressed and fell down in her garden and burst into tears. Due to the constant break-ins, threats and extortion, Ms. Liu lived in constant terror and mental pressure. Her former diseases recurred and her health deteriorated tremendously. On August 30th, 2006, Liu Xizhen passed away during the night.
