The UK Independence Party wrote to the European Friends of Falun Gong to express their concern “about the practice of ‘organ harvesting’ from prisoners of conscience in China.

MEP Graham said he and “his UKIP MEP colleagues all abhor the disgraceful practices and will do all they can to try and prevent it. “ He continues to say that they will give their support to “try and bring these horrific practices to an end.”

Graham Tope from London Assembly Liberal Democrat Group wrote:

“Thank you for your letter of 10th September. I am replying on behalf of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Members. As you may know, on the 21st of December 2000, the Assembly passed unanimously the following resolution:

This Assembly strongly supports Article 18 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that everyone has the right to freedom of thought and religion and that everyone has the right to manifest these in public or in private, in teaching, practice and worship.

This Assembly notes that London is a city renowned for its cultural and religious diversity and encourages the values outlined in Article 18, and that the Falun Gong is a Chinese spiritual movement centred around the practice of meditation.

This Assembly calls on the Chair to write to the Chinese Ambassador to condemn the Chinese Government for its policy of suppressing the Falun Gong movement, by means of harassment, arbitrary detention, unfair trial, torture, and murder.

The Liberal Democrats, of course, supported that motion then and we are still very much of the same view.

With many thanks for writing to us.”
